So Burger King is racist now too?

We all deal with discrimination, It sucks, deal with it, try to right it and point it out whenever you see it.

I'm 25, I work in a field dominated by baby boomers. I tell people what business I work in and they instantly assume that I work in the mail room or what have you. I tell them what my position is, and then they assume I work for a company owned by my family.

All I can do is work hard, learn as much as possible, make the best product I can.

I could also complain about the various racial stereotypes that I suffer that some other races don't but it's pointless, we all have to deal with that.

you don't need to "concern" yourself but hey do whatever you like.. just remember the old adage "you are what you eat"...

You-are-what-you-eat-_t29c.jpg

I'd say neither one of those folks look too healthy.

I'll go out on a limb here and guess you have a problem with fat people. I'll bet you don't like them, and don't like to be around them, have a lot of stereotypes about them, and if you were hiring, you'd avoid hiring a fat person.

Now if you replace "fat" with an ethnic group.....

Just sayin....

I'll go out on a limb jere and guess you have a probelm with neo-nazis. I'll bet you don't like them, and don't like to be around them, have a lot of stereotypes about them, and, if you were hiring, you'd avoid hiring a neo-nazi.

Now if you replace "neo nazi" with an ethnic group.....

Oh wait, that doesn't work! Damn! :D

So you equate fat people with neo nazis?

Interesting though process. Totallly screwed up, but interesting.

Seriously, it's a slippery slope to try to generalize about accents. I spend a lot of time in Louisiana, and I'm a lifelong resident of Alabama. I could bring six people into a room from Alabama or Louisiana and show you six totally different accents. I was raised in Mobile and attended Catholic schools with Irish nuns. I guarantee you I don't sound like someone from Selma or Dothan. Louisiana has even more variables that influence accent.

I like to guess where people are from based on their accent, and I get it right more often than not. The popeyes lady could be from any number of southeast states, but she definitely lacks a lot of the French-Cajun twang that you will often hear in Louisiana. There are some folks in Louisiana that have an accent that reminds me of a Brooklyn accent. That's kinda strange.

Hey, so do I! It's quickly becoming a newer fascination of mine...lately I've been researching the history of the English language, and how the different American accents developed.
The best books on the subject seem to cost several hundreds of dollars so...it's been limited to whatever I can find on teh interwebz for now :D

BTW my family is from Mobile. If you've ever known a Toomer or a Blackston, then you've probably met them.

That's an interesting leap of logic since I don't mention fat people at all in my post. Let me know if you want me to explain the point I was making in my post to you (I thought it was fairly obvious, but happy to help out).

I'll be sure to ask you when I want you to explain something to me.

Obviously you didn't get what I was trying to say in my post either. It's fine to stereotype fat people, make fun of them, post pictures of the guy with the wheelbarrow, etc. Political correctness, or just plain human decency can be disregarded when it comes to fat people as people dig in and degrade them. If the same lack of consideration was applied to an ethnic group, all hell would break loose.

hmmm, well considering I'm a good 30 lbs overweight, that doesn't make much sense.. unless I'm going to stop liking myself, being around myself and avoid hiring myself.. LOL..

PS.. no offense intended..

Just trying to help out since it seemed pretty obvious from your post in response to mine that you were a million miles from the point I was making.

Actually I understand and agree with the sentiment of the point you are making - its not fine to make fund of people based on their physical characteristics in any context. However, I was simply pointing out (in a humerous way - note the use of the similie face) that not all characteristics are the same, there are vary degrees of chocie involved from things that are a complete choice (being a neo-nazi) to things that you have no choice in whatsoever (your ethnic group) and that its not as simple as merely swapping words in and out of sentences to make a point. One's weight falls somewhere between the two points on the spectrum, but it is not, in my mind the same thing as one's ethnic group since no one is born fat (although they may have a genetic disposition towards it).

It would be just as potent to have said "I don't think its acceptable to make fund of people based on their weight" than try and turn fat into another "ism".

Mea Culpa to Mark and AfroCubanFunkMa... I took your posts wrong.

dmusic148 - it is important to note that not all fat people can change the way they are either. Sure, there are fat people who are fat because they have no will power. There are fat people who have physical problems that prevent them from losing weight. There are fat people who got that way from overeating and now can't lose the weight.

They are not all evil gluttons, nor are they all victims.
