You're going to have to explain that to me, because I don't see where you get that from what I've been saying.

I have never justified stereotyping, nor did I disagree that the act of stereotyping itself is negative.

I did say that the effect of stereotyping on an individual might not be negative. That's an observation, not a justification for the stereotyping itself.

I've tried to be very clear about this.

And I still don't see how misapplying a positive attribute to someone is necessarily negative in terms of the effect it will have on that individual - and in those terms only.

I just can't believe anyone of even average intelligence would want to publicly pick that scab yet again. I can't believe we are still rehashing those tired old stereotypes.

I asked my 17-year-old son if he was aware of any food stereotypes associated with Blacks. He drew a blank. I said, "Watermelon?" He just stared at me like "What do you mean?" I said "Fried chicken?" He said, "Stop, you're making me hungry."

He didn't have a clue what I was getting at.

Why do people insist on stirring that turd? Drop the stereotypes, give the new generations a chance to get over them, and they'll probably disappear.

Then Mary J, and the rest of us, won't have to feel ashamed or insulted over a black woman selling chicken, for crying out loud.

Actually, yeah, +1. My GF's 15 year old twins, a boy and a girl, also wouldn't know what I was talking about if I presented that to them. It's not part of their(upwardly mobile, white) culture. Maybe this awful stereotype has finally found retirement. I hope so.

Yes sir! There is only one in the whole state of minnesota in minneapolis. A few of us at work have to work weekends sometimes and the supervisor will treat us to Popeyes with all the fixins.

if you are ever down our way.... nashville is not exactly famous for it's fine dining, but one thing we do have (and are known for) is what is called "hot fried chicken", where the chicken is fried, usually to perfection, and then somehow married with a hot spice preparation that can be as hot or as mild as you like.

in it's HOT incarnation, it is truly so hot it is amazing, but at 3 or 4 (out of 5) it is a real experience.
