source audio c4

hey im totally new to the C4 world so sorry if this has been talked on already. currently because of board constraints i can only use input two is there a way to program it so it recognizes it as opposed to it needing to be a part of some stereo/parallel setup?

You can use input instead but would need to reprogram pretty much every community patch manually to do so. Might be less of a headache ti work out a way to rearrange your board so input 1 is accessible.

If you want MIDI control of many parameters, as @Gibs210 says, you simply select them yourself from the MIDI map.

However, I was more specifically talking about the MIDI command which allows the user to reassign the C4’s two hardware knobs on the fly. You choose the CC number yourself; it is the CC values of that function which are currently buggy.
Ah, so you want to push a button on your MC8 and resign (over midi CC) what one of the knobs does on the face of the C4...I se where you are going with this. Nice idea.

Yes, it can be done but the MIDI CC lists are incomplete and in a very illogical order.

How are you finding expression over midi CC? I'm finding it a night mare of inconsistency with my SA gear. Yes, I works like a charm on my H9's and EXH Hog2.
Generally works fine for me. I had occasional problems when routing via another device before the hub though. (The FI doesn’t pass CC6 on MIDI THRU either.)

Can I use this pedal as strictly a pitch shifting device to send a “rhythm guitar” power chord signal to a separate amp? So +1 octave 100% of the time, and then have the ability to stomp on a 5th above that (or 12th above the root). I want more of a natural guitar sound that I can send into a fuzz pedal for a simulated guitar in a power duo rock situation. I have a pog but I’d like access to adding that upper 5th.

Browsing presets on the Neuro Desktop and interacting with the pedal gradually gets laggy until eventually the the USB stops responding until power cycling the pedal. This is extremely annoying and I'm close to throwing my C4 out of the window. The sound processing otherwise works and the pedal can switch presets with the toggle switch and play fine, just no USB interaction possible.

Update: SA replaced my pedal and we're back in business. Great attention and support as usual, the most frustrating part was waiting FOUR days for USPS to deliver a 1-day priority mail package from SA to my house -- that's 10 miles.

Apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered already..

I’m interested in getting a C4 and I understand the DMC micro is a popular combo option, to access presets.
For some gigs I currently use an IPad Pro running ForScore and an Airturn page turner. I understand ForScore is able to send MIDI commands while loading a score from a set list. Ideally I would like to use this functionality to load presets on the C4.
If any of you have a similar setup I’d be interested in how you achieved it. What cabling would be required, what hardware (Neuro Hub or not?) you used etc.
Preferably I’d like to automate the setup with midi commands from Forscore (starting with the C4 and maybe add other SA pedals later) and maybe add a DMC micro for flexibility..mind you all of this is kind of new territory for me..so any suggestions are more than welcome! Thanks!

I use exactly that setup for my board... iPad with a BT-105 Airturn, with ForScore and MidiPad2. It's super slick. I do use the Hub in my setup because I'm also controlling an HXFX (or Stomp) and go there first before sending to the Source Audio pedals.

So my setup goes:
iPad > Apple Camera connector > USB cable > HXFX > MIDI cable to Hub > SA control cables to C4 and Spectrum.

But if the C4 is all you're controlling, I'm fairly sure you can just connect directly from the iPad to the C4 and it should work (at least, I believe I tried this when I was initially getting my board set up, but I can double check later after work to confirm).

Automating from ForScore is fantastic. Change pages/charts with the page turner and I don't really even need to touch my board!

Pro Tips
1) In ForScore, definitely make use of the MIDI presets.
2) it's super handy to program all your charts with a C4 bypass command, so that if you're on a chart that doesn't need a C4 sound, it turns it off. (just in case... don't want a synth sound on a nice quite ballad.........)
3) Check out MidiPad2. It's $2.99 and it's killer for when you're not using charts. I've got a board set up in Midipad for doing things like turning the tuner on/off, changing presets on my HXFX, calling up patches on my C4, etc. (See photo below)

How are you guys remembering your C4 presets? I was going to go the very low-tech route of writing them on a piece of paper and cellotaping it to my pedalboard...

I used to do that before I upgraded to MIDI. I had a preset list on the floor for my Future Impact, right next to my set lists.

Don't have to do that anymore with MIDI though... I just program them once and it calls up automatically after that. Here's a more closeup shot of the MidiPad screen, for example. And in ForScore, it's all programmed into the metadata for each chart. Easy peasy. Each "pad" is set up for different commands (including toggles, like the Tuner pad), and there are (limited) color choices so I can even color code to an extent, and you can set up your page(s) in Midipad with a variety of columns and rows, too.

Ok, just one more question if I may. I think I got it, but to confirm, you’re sending MIDI down this route:
iPad (+correct cabling) > C4 should work fine, either with Forscore or maybe MidiPad2.
Now, if I’d like to add more SA pedals, for example the Aftershock, I’d need to go through the Neuro Hub.
And If I’d like to implement the DMC micro, that would control the C4 without the hub.
Correct so far?
Now we have multiple routes to achieve the same thing. But I guess it’s either control via Ipad > Hub > SA pedals OR DMC Micro > C4, not both, right? (I guess what I’m saying is I’d like to avoid buying an HX Stop ;-))
Great board btw, looks amazingly well thought out.
Thanks again!

I recently purchased a c4 and love it..I too am wanting to do this as i also got an expression pedal which id like to add the 5th to when i need the power chord. Ive only had a limited time to try build a preset but cant figure when i set only octave up it sounds like theres detune or chorus effect on the octave, tracking seems glitchy(just read this is adjustable) seems theres more than just setting octave up and going with it. All other FX in the program are off and have output set to filter and distortion as i would like to use the integrated fuzz and distortions so maybe thats why i get detune on the dry octave up if that makes sense. Hoping someone can chime in and help us out. The presets avilable through the neuro community are awesome and this pedal can fit the bill for allot of stuff ive never been able to do before.. Thanks Source Audio!!

I you wanting to pitch up a fifth like a whammy, or just role up the mix of the fifth? If mixing in, then you should be controlling the level of the voice that is set for a fifth up.

Yup was thinking adding volume for the 5th but my trouble is getting a nice clean octave up tone first and having troubles with that cause I cant eliminate a warble associated with the octave up tone. Sounds like detune or some other effect. Once I get that ill dive in and add distortion, 5th volume controlled through expression pedal etc. Thanks for your reply @Gibs210
Edit: What should my source and destination be set to in Voice section of editing? Thinking tnat might be my problem.
Thanks!

I think your post will be easier to break it down piece by piece, so here you go:

I think I got it, but to confirm, you’re sending MIDI down this route:
iPad (+correct cabling) > C4 should work fine, either with Forscore or maybe MidiPad2.

Sorry for the delay on confirming this, but you certainly can! I just tried it and it does indeed work to go straight from the iPad to the C4 via the Apple Camera connector and USB, and it works with both MidiPad and ForScore.

Now, if I’d like to add more SA pedals, for example the Aftershock, I’d need to go through the Neuro Hub.

Correct. Connect your iPad to the Hub via USB and it would allow you to control more than one SA pedal. You'd just want to make sure your SA Pedals are all on different channels and program accordingly on the iPad. In this particular case, the Hub would just be the interface that passes MIDI to the appropriate pedal.

And If I’d like to implement the DMC micro, that would control the C4 without the hub. Correct so far?

I believe so. I've never used the DMC Micro, but the specs on the web page do say "USB MIDI or USB Host connection for advanced control possibilities" so you should be good if you want to go straight into the C4 with it.

Now we have multiple routes to achieve the same thing. But I guess it’s either control via Ipad > Hub > SA pedals OR DMC Micro > C4, not both, right?

Correct, you'd have to pick one or the other. It doesn't seem to work very well to have MIDI coming in from both the Hub and the USB... I did experiment with having the C4 hooked up to the Hub and my PC at the same time and it got a little confused as to what to listen to.

It might be worth noting here that there may be someone on Talkbass using a DMC Micro to control multiple SA pedals via the Hub. They may be able to chime in here, but you could also ask in the main Source Audio Sorcerers thread... I believe you could program the DMC Micro to control Scenes on the Hub, which would be able to control multiple pedals.

(I guess what I’m saying is I’d like to avoid buying an HX Stop ;-))

You certainly don't have to buy a Helix at all... The only reason I have it connected in the loop is because I'm also using my iPad (or an incoming MIDI signal from a band I sit in with) to control presets with on the HX Effects as well. It doesn't have anything to do with controlling the C4/Spectrum, other than passing the MIDI signal through to the Hub.

I have my HX Effects on MIDI Channel 5, my C4 on Channel 1, and my Spectrum on Channel 2 so everything is controllable individually. But you could just disregard the Helix in your setup!

Great board btw, looks amazingly well thought out.
Thanks again!

Thanks, I definitely put some thought/work into getting it set up! Totally worth the effort though.

The only other thing I would note is that since you already have your iPad with ForScore, you could save quite a bit of cash by just getting the Apple connectorIt's all personal preference though, of course!

Thanks again for the comprehensive answers. I decided to order a C4 and am getting the connection setup through usb from the iPad. This indeed seems the best way to dip my toe into this SA world..
Nice to have such a pro setup with midi automation and lights and all..would love to see some of it in action, but for now I can imagine. Great when all the preparation leads to good results.

Thanks again. Next up: exploring the presets. C4 should be here by Monday. Looking forward to it.
