I am trying to configure my Neural QC to control a few simple parameters of my C4 Synth and running in to a communication issue between the two devices. It seems like the CC command is not getting from the QC to the C4.

In order to get the 5 pin MIDI down to mini USB (C4) I am using a MIDI to USB-A and then an adapter (USB-A to mini USB).

I believe this is where the breakdown is occurring. To troubleshoot the QC I used a standard 5-pin to 5-pin cable from the QC to my HxStomp and it worked no problem. So I know the QC is sending the CC message correctly.

When I send the CC message from the QC to the C4 the smaller green LED on the C4 does not trigger. So I'm pretty sure it is not being received.

Do I need to use a USB host in between? Something like this:

Not sure where to go from here.

I've used the Kenton MIDI USB Host and as I mentioned already, the Disaster Area DMC Micro Pro - it's not just a matter of USB cables, unfortunately.

Either a USB Host or a Neuro Hub are necessary

The c4 is on its way and I can’t wait to try it. Im hoping it’ll help to condense my board (potentially replacing a couple of these…EHX bass micro synth, Emma discumbobulator, MXR BOD and/or darkglass duality fuzz). I’ve been reading through the topic but I’m only up to page 50. So one question for now….can the C4 do a convincing emulation of the dub bass setting of the BMS? I love that sound and it’s all I use on that pedal. I’ve coupled the BMS with a boss LS-2 so I can get more volume and a blend control. If the C4 can do it, I could also perhaps get the LS2 off the board too…..that would be sweet. Thanks for any replies!

I only really wanted it for filtering sounds, so I may swap it out for a nice pedal with top jacks (proton/microtron iii/xerograph deluxe) but I'll enjoy it for the time being. Here's a quick video of me jamming it with my American Performer Mustang.

@Cran give the C4 a chance and remember you can also run all of the Spectrum sounds from the Neuro Cloud, then again I have both on my board. There are so many great sounds in the Neuro Cloud you should find lots to make you dance and shout.

The thing is, I really really want to! I just have limited space on my board (Nano+ with 4 pedals inc. an empress compressor mki, which is quite large) so I fear that once my drives arrive in the mail I won't be able to fit them on without top jacks on the chorus/filter. We'll see how worried I need to be in a couple of days, maybe if I get lucky I can keep the C4 around. The filters sound great, and the opportunities for everything else it offers are also very exciting.

You can certainly get massive dub tones from the C4 to replace the BmS, octave tones to replace the BOD, but you might consider keeping the Discombobulator even with the goodness that the C4 provides. As far as replacing your Darkglass look to the Aftershock or the Ultrawave.

Nice. What patch is that?

Spectrum is nice for more hands-on tweaking of the hardware knobs. One (non-synth) thing that C4 has that Spectrum doesn’t that is really useful is the gate on the volume envelopes.

Great, that’s good to know! Hopefully I can learn to make the sounds without too much trouble. I will be keeping all my pedals because I like them….but just trying to be more compact on my nano+ bass board. I’ll experiment and see how they work with the C4. Cheers

is the gHOST cable from disaster area special in any way? Do I need specifically that one or can I just buy any female USB A into male USB B cable?

I was in the same boat - couldn't get the official cable in the UK, so I just got the necessary cables and adaptors on Amazon UK

The DMC cable isn’t necessary, but I did try some random cables that didn’t work right. I’ve posted about my cables experience a few times, but if you have a board with holes to route cables down and underneath then I would highly recommend a set of up-angle and down-angle mini B ends on whatever cables you get (the C4 and DMC jacks are oriented opposite from each other). I actually ruined a DMC cable because of how far a straight cable sticks out.

If the dmc uses the latest firmware, you can just use the included neuro cable and setup the multi jack to work with the C4 via TRRS.

I had the same question. I tried a normal USB cable and it didn't work, I had to buy a host adapter cable (also known as an otg or "on the go" cable. You can get them from Amazon.

I just managed to pare down my pedal/effects needs to a couple of great boxes should the need arrive. I used to have a Line6 Helix LT and sold it on because it was too big. I don't want to make the "I have everything I need" argument because that makes me seem one sided and closed minded - I play from jazz to pop to punk to funk (and anything in between), but there is a point where I can't see myself using much else live. I'll probably build another Nano+ later on with a bunch of nice reverbs/delays/loopers for more ambient stuff, but I couldn't bear to carry a Pedaltrain Jr Classic around to gigs. I think the biggest I'd go is a Metro 20.

But I digress. I'm excited/nervous to see how the drives will fit (I got two Jam Pedals boxes - the bass versions of the red muck and rattler). A part of me is hopeful but the more rational side of my brain says it won't fit. In any case, the C4 is the last pedal to go (out of the ones I'm willing to swap out). Maybe I can get a chorus with top jacks, like the Futura, and the problem will be solved. It's not like I can replace the C4 anyway, the Xerograph and Proton are out of stock everywhere. But the Microtron IV on the other hand...

For example, have Preset 3 toggled on the unit but use a MIDI Controller to change the Preset to 2 (via CC# command)

It seems like the manual only provides commands to engage/bypass the unit and/or change Tap Tempo or Expression.
