source audio c4

I’ve spent more hours this past week and a half with my new C4 than I think I’ve ever spent with any other new piece of gear.

The community presets, for me, are priceless. That’s where I spend my time. I’m no where near ready to make my own, so I’ve been spending hours upon hours trying out different ones (still trying to find one that does that Tom Sawyer by Rush sound, if it’s possible for it to do that).

Do you mean the long held note or the riff part?

I’ll have a crack at it, though it sounds like it needs more than two oscillators. I might be able to fudge it with chorus inside the C4’s loop.

Here you go. I manged to thicken the sound by using the parallel low pass filters instead (2 in one clip, 3 in the other). I reckon this would be even better if routing in stereo as that's what it sounds like on the recording. The envelopes maybe need tweaking - the amp envelope cuts out too quickly - a bit of compression will help.

I'll upload these two patches shortly.

Sweet!! Can’t wait to try it out later!

On another note, 5 of the 6 memory slots on my C4 currently are taken by presets from you. Really liking a lot of what you’re doing with this thing.

That's nice to hear. Do make sure you get some means to access the other 122 preset slots on your pedal. You can do it with the free TouchOSC app on your phone for instance.

I have been following this thread before buying the C4 and I´m really happy that I decided to buy it. It´s and amazing and fun pedal, and alll the presets you and the other comunity members are great value for everyone! I hope I will be able to create some patches in the future.

I´m interested in the touch osc thing, since I don´t have any midi controller yet and I´m trying to find a way to scroll the 122 presets inside the pedal with the phone app but can´t seem to find a way. Any guidance on how to set up osc and the C4?

One suggestion I have made to Niko from Source audio team via email is that it would be great that the mobile apps have some type of preset scrolling like the micro dmc function, but via software. At least the ones who don´t own a midi harware device can still manage the preset scrolling with the phone...

Many thanks Source Audio for this fantastic pedal!!!

Cheers!

I made this template to control the Manta via the SA Hub on an iphone 6; it should work for switching the C4 if you set it to channel 1.

Feel free to adapt it for your needs.

You'll need to download the ios app and the PC/Mac editor:

Many thanks! I will have a look at it. Is it the Neuro Hub necessary or it might work just connecting the phone with the regular jack to minijack cable provided? Sorry for the ignorance in this matter...:(

straight in via usb from the phone (via camera connection kit adaptor).

Check his feed on the neuro presets feed - there should be links to his other media accounts.
Thanks bro - yes, had previously found him and you on the neuro app - desperately waiting for the country to come out of lockdown (hopefully next week) so that non-essential goods can be shipped! The C4 is ordered - suspect it may be still a couple of weeks away until I can get my hands on it though - and then very much looking forward to trying out some of your presets - I'm sure the C4 will scratch my itch for vintage (70's/80's) and modern synth tones.
Feels to me like music gear should be deemed essential :rollno:

When using the C4's USB port for a controller, has anyone come up with a solution to not have to unplug the USB cable when connecting to a computer? I think someone tried a USB hub for this (which didn't work), but has anyone tried a USB switch device?

I'm using the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] so I can run MIDI to a Helix Stomp, and then from there pass along the MIDI from HX S to the C4. Works fine. I haven't used it running USB from my Mac or my Powerbook, but it should work there, too.

Hey gang, I'm having a huge brain fart here - can anyone remind me how to get an expression pedal going with the C4? Do I have to put it in the Hub? Thanks.
Plug it into the Hub’s expression input port. You’ll need to switch external control on in the C4 patch and set the source(s) to “hub/external midi” (if it’s one you're creating), set the source(s) to “hub/external midi” and specify one or more destinations. If it’s a shared patch that already has expression assignments then you should be good to go, unless the creator used something like the SA dual expression or reflex with the TRRS jack, in which case you’ll need to change the input assignments in the external control section of the patches.

Yes, that was it - thank you! I'd done it previously but my memory was failing me and I couldn't find it in the manuals. Dang though... I'm re-working my board and had placed the Hub underneath it which doesn't give me space for a TRS cable. Guess I'll see what else I could do.

See above as I’ve added some more info since you replied.

If you use an external controller for patch switching, you could use its own expression input port (if it has one) and specify CC100 and the messages will get passed to the C4 via TRRS.

I have an MC6 Morningstar for patch switches - so I could potentially use that? I'll start researching. And if I found a TRS cable with a flat right angle at one end I could get away with using the Hub...
