I am a little surprised about your response for Spectrum HUB support. I had assumed that since the Spectrum is a “simpler” implementation of the C4, the lower complexity would eliminate the C4 HUB scene issue?

We are trying to make the C4 and the Spectrum data structures as close as possible to eliminate the likelihood of creating new bugs. The Editors will be different on the skin, but everything below the surface will be very similar.

Yeah, cumbersome for sure. Forgive me if I missed something. Do you have a Hub and MIDI controller now? If not, are you going to add one?

It's not terrible. At the end of the day I'm not complaining about being able to recall so many sounds, really. I'd call it all a blessing before an inconvenience.

I don't have a controller yet. Im glad I waited until after the C4 to pick up more peripherals. The problem now is that I have no idea what I need. I'd like to control presets and parameters on my C4, Aftershock, and be able to integrate other non Source Audio devices into the same ecosystem with as few total control devices as possible.

I think that will depend largely on what other non-SA devices you end up with. Some have standard MIDI in/out/thru ports. Others (like Chase Bliss pedals, for instance) also use a proprietary method for MIDI that require an extra device to "translate" for them.

As for MIDI controllers, how fancy you get just depends on what you need. For preset recall you really don't need much. Any standard MIDI controller will talk just fine with the Hub AFAIK.

correct! You do need to make a setting in the Editor to have the hardware set for USB Host. Very simple.

Also not familiar with the DMC micro, but if it has a USB midi port and cable it should work to scroll up and down presets. No regular midi ports on the C4, so has to be USB.

I have a hub setup, but can't figure out how to get it to communicate with the C4. The C4 should read CC messages from the hub to change presets, but I can't seem to make it work. I'm missing something, can anyone clue me in?

Let's say I wanted preset recall, expression control, and tap tempo control for a Source Audio C4, Aftershock, and a Boss RV-500. I plan to add more stuff, this is the effects forum after all, in the future but let's start with these units.

What would you guys recommend?

Wrong MIDI channel? This does work. We have tested many times. Also, note that the presets in the editor start at 1, but the MIDI address is one less than that.

I'm fairly new to MIDI, but you could get a Disaster Area DMC 3 (or higher depending on how many footswitches you want) as the controller. Then the neuro hub to connect everything. MIDI out from the DMC to MIDI in on the Neuro Hub. Then MIDI out from the Neuro hub to the RV 500 and use two of the multi-function outputs on the neuro hub to connect each of your C4 and Aftershock. That leaves you with 3 more multi-function outputs if you add any other SA One Series pedals in the future. Then you can use the MIDI out on the RV 500 if you add any other pedals with standard MIDI cable inputs, as they can be chained.

The Neuro hub has an expression input, which you wanted. And the DMC controllers can be set to do tap tempo.

@sifrancis I was on the fence about this pedal (I already have and love my FI). But after listening to your bass synth patch I just placed an order for the C4. Thanks!

This sounds perfect. Is the DMC 3 confirmed to be compatible?

Yes. Pretty sure you could also run the MIDI to the RV500 first and then to the Hub. Hub and RV500 just need to be a on different MIDI channels so they respond correctly.

Honestly though, why not get the Ventris? Both are great reverb pedals, but the Ventris is gonna be a smaller footprint, is Hub friendly, and isn't significantly more expensive. Just food for thought!

I agree! I'm actually planning to swap the Ventris in for the RV-500 in the near future. I went with the RV first because I got it for about half the price of the Ventris and I wasn't 100% confident I needed such an elaborate Reverb unit at the time. Sort of testing the waters. I know I need one now so the Ventris is in the plans for the future.
