Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

hi to everyone. I'm afraid I need to share my problem here, as mails to source audio don't get effect.

at November I've noticed that Source Audio website doesn't work from my country.
I've provided network diagnostic information, as well as talked to one of my ISPs that confirmed that the problem is on the website hoster's side.

last message I got from Source Audio was almost two months ago:
"Unfortunately, it is our host site that made the decision to block traffic. They don't have a way to bypass it right now but are working on it. "

guys at Source Audio, come on, your website doesn't work for more than half a year for a whole country (yeah, we have and appreciate Source Audio pedals here). and nothing is being done to fix it? could you please eventually pay attention to this? thanks

My midi chain is One Control > Reflex > Hub > Future Impact > H9_1 > H9_2. One Control sends omni, pedals read on ch. 1-5 in above order, with omni through from one to the next. No real reason to use ch.2 other than that just happened to be the physical order of the chain. How do you have your C4 connected to the hub? Or, how do you send it midi info? It sounds like I have the One Control sending the right info, just have to get the C4 to see it. Thanks for the help.

Ok that makes sense for channel 2. I have the C4 hooked up to the hub via the 1/8th” TRRS cable. From the 1/8” control input on the back of the C4 to one of the 5 on the Neuro hub. My midi chain is soleman>Neuro hub>Reflex>line6 M9. Had my whammy connected via the 2nd DIN output on the Soleman but just took the whammy out of the chain.

You should be able to send CC104 On data xxx for preset selection... only other variable is the Omni nature of the One Control pedal.

I use the soleman so I set up a latching button that transmits on MIDI channel 1/CC#104/3 to activate the 4th preset on activation and CC#103/3 on midi channel 1 to turn it off (it’s in the screenshot of the other post).

Can you try sending that CC data to midi channel 2 only instead of Omni?

I am not the one to ask (sorry), but I do not think you want the Hub and the C4 on the same MIDI channel. Perhaps send a message to [email protected] or perhaps a Hub fluent person here can comment. This should be solved really easily.

Not sure why, but I was actually only able to get it working when I had them on the same channel. I only noticed it get bug once between the nemesis and the C4. I was able to fix it by having the PC message come first in my midi macro.

I use a soleman/neuro combo using macros.
I now always have the PC neuro change come first, followed by the C4 CC 104 change.
Even if the only pedal I want on is the C4, I send a PC signal to the neuro to switch to my "clean" preset.

The cool part is this setup turned my single button C4 into an 8 button multieffects with the soleman (radio mode - on/off are 2 different effects). I can still bring in the rest of my pedals individually, or I can build them into the C4 presets (that "Lush Pad" sounds excellent with a bit of delay).

Yep, saw the screenshot. Thanks, this helps a lot. I seem to have everything connected the right way. My problem I think is in how my controller sends messages. Now at least I can narrow my troubleshooting to just the controller. Will play with it later and report back. Thanks again for your help. Love the TB community!!! :bassist:

GOOD IDEA!!! Totally going to do that to have 8 on one panel of the soleman. Can hit the physical button to dis-engage the C4.
Only challenge now is representing them in 3 letters lol.

I recommend putting your clean switch as one of the toggles on the soleman, this way it disengages ALL your effects so if you have some wacky delays happening and want to get back to your meat and potatoes, you're not frantically turning 5 pedals off.

For the naming, I try to stick like with like. Button 2 is Distortion/clean, button 2 - OC2/808, button 3 - 2 different pads, button 4 is my envelope filter and Mock POG.
I named them as Dis, OC2, Pad, and Led (as in lead tones).

And the best part is, you can make multiple panels! Why choose when you can have it all?

Well, I am glad all of the information about the Hub surfaced as I was considering going further into the Source Audio paradigm.

If the Hub worked how I thought it would - the thought was a second C4, Ventris & Nemesis to replace FI, Big Sky and Timeline. I have 2 outputs from my bass which is why I was thinking about a 2nd C4.

At this time, if I am not deeply entrenched in the SA ecosystem, what value does the Hub brink besides MIDI DIN>1/8 MIDI?

Can I use any other means to convert DIN to the 1/8 cable? This format for MIDI has emerged over the last couple of years and cables can be purchased, I just need to know some specs unless this is absolutely a proprietary cable.

Thanks!

I have made every decision about where we host our web site since day 1 and I am happy explain why we are where we are. We did not ignore your original inquiry, and I am not ignoring you now.
About 10 years ago, things like WordPress came on the scene that allowed individuals and small companies to use "templates" hosted by other companies to present a web site without learning html. About 5 years ago, these tools became good enough that bigger and bigger companies started using these services. When our old hosting company that ran our custom site got purchased by Time Warner, we thought "great, they are a big stable company". A few years later the corporate strategy shifted and they gave us six months until we and all other customers got shut down. Faced with this awful deadline and a need to have a great website on a budget that allows us to invest in all the software tools you demand on all the platforms we support, I picked Weebly, who provide high level templates to companies like us and larger. It was a great choice. Our site is so much more stable and easy to update. Weebly now has 45 million customers and are a leader in this area.
Countries that block web content do so for political reasons that are far beyond the reach of an effect pedal company. You are asking me to take huge risk and huge expense to move our entire website to a new location that could also be blocked the day after I do so. I cannot take on this risk.
We have taken time now twice to provide a clear explaination of our logic, and a can't see where we have gone wrong. I can only hope the politics change so you can see our work!! This is frustrating. Agreed.

Man, I pre-ord the Boss SY1.....and I'm still happy I did....but I need to get the C4 one of these days. Just looking at all the screen shots of the app and the possibilities...I'm excite. Damn. I'll be getting one eventually.
You better get one. You started this thread!!! :) Been missing your voice here. :)

I know! Sorry man. I've been pretty set on my setup for a while now. As much as I love your guys' stuff, I just went other ways. But the C4, dude, I want one so bad!! I'm most likely getting a promo at work soon so I'll have the extra cash in the near future. That's part of the reason I've "settled" on my setup hahaha I've been so tight for a long time now. But soon @rsmith601, very soon! Can't wait to dive in! I wish I would've gotten on the YT demo circuit a while ago. Feels like too many are doing it now. Well, not too many. But I just don't have the production quality a lot of these other guys can get.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. However please take note that it’s not the case that Ukraine bans your provider, it’s your provider that bans Ukraine. As I understood from communicating with my ISP and your staff.

How can they control that though?? I mean, they could switch providers. But that's a whole other ball o wax. Just sayin....

IDK, I have a trace route that loses connection at some US data center.

I Googled for Weebly and found out in November they blocked all traffic from Russia and Ukraine “as a security measure”. They must have used GeoIP for that or something similar.

I was in the same boat. Had the Lunar, aftershock, manta, and the nemesis twice. I thought three of the four were fantastic, but went a different route with my setup. Ultimately, I wanted more control on the face without needing the Neuro Editor app. That said, I know that sort of interface is the reality with a high quality, flexible synth pedal that has presets. So I’ve gone the C4 route, and it’s a fine exception to that rule of wanting physical controls on the face of each pedal.

I’m diving in hard over the next month and am interested to see how much ground the C4 can cover. I’m really hoping it can eliminate the need for my current octaves and filter. It is impressive right out of the gate...

Yeah I am the same way. I was SO CLOSE to going full on HUB at one point. But in the end, i just didn't take that dive. I've always wanted a small, reliable and in depth, yet simple synth that was easy to use and sounded really good. And to have it affordable. There are some options out there that fit that bill but were always slightly short of what I wanted. The C4 sure seems like its it. While it can be very in depth and complex, I have a feeling once I dial in the sounds I want, I wouldn't need another synth ever. I ord the Boss SY1 cause of all I just said and it was more accessible to me in cost atm. But I def see myself getting the C4 eventually. To me, it seems like it's going to be the answer to a ton of guys who are in the same exact boat as me. And then some. I think for the size and price point, it's going to be very hard to beat the C4 on many levels.

It immediately replaced my cog t-65 and my xerograph deluxe.
There are some really excellent octave clones already from the community.

I've had the same concerns you guys have had. I've been looking at the FI and Enzo for a long time now but they're just out of my price range. The C4 is in a way more realistic price range for me now so its been a no brainer for me since it was first teased here, and familiarity with Source Audio's vocabulary and parameters is an advantage.

Seeing Source Audio work with Disaster Area, and maybe other companies in the future?, to open up their ecosystem to a wider range of effects users also gives me the confidence to build an effects system that won't become irrelevant or finicky when I want incorporate non-SA devices.

For me it basically came down to future proofing my setup, avoiding as much proprietary gear as I can. I loved my Aftershock but couldn't justify the cost of a solemn, reflex and Hub to take advantage of its potential. That's no longer a concern.

Just saying if you started a channel I'd sub. I always sub to TBers. Gotta support the cause.
