Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

For the record, I don't own a C4...yet. I had some other purchases in the pipeline and I was pacing myself. But I'm planning on snagging one no later than the holidays.

I've tried to outline my logic before. I do the same thing with my Nemesis---I put it on the 5-pin MIDI and NOT the Hub for this reason. I see the power and logic of doing "scenes" for some people, it's just not how I tend to work---I like thinking of my pedals very individually, and I'd rather set up presets for each pedal and then find ways to combine them on my own. Let's say I have 10 sounds I like on the Nemesis, 10 I like on the C4, and 4 I liked on the Aftershock. That's actually 400 possible sounds. I'm unlikely to use all 400, but I would rather just control all three independently rather than having to decide which combinations I should program into the Hub and keeping a spreadsheet there.

I know there are workarounds like deleting the Hub from a scene after it's been scanned, or unplugging the pedals from the Hub before scanning, or just programming it from the editor with only the pedals I want from the beginning. But I think a relatively simple fix is just to have an option in the editor for "don't save pedals X/Y/etc. in scenes." A one-time option that you could always change your mind on. Seems like it wouldn't be that code intensive in the Hub or the editor.

You can keep the C4 on the hub and use CC to change presets (and I assume the nemesis?) it just can’t be on midi channel 1 like the hub is. I moved my C4 to Midi ch5 a month or so ago after @Gibs210 recommended doing so. If it was left on Ch1 then scenes would be a big headache.

Can you confirm Gibs? Hub will still pass midi CC info on other midi channels to 1/8” TRRS connected devices?

it took me about 20 minutes to move my Soleman panels over to the new midi channel when I did the move. Knew I’d be using CC over Scenes at that point as my soundblox stuff had come off the board so it’s just the Aftershock using the hub to expand the presets.

So I was looking at the MIDI map for the Hub in the Neuro editor. The drop down for each CC only shows "Unassigned" and doesn't show any parameter options.
How do I program this thing for MIDI?
There shouldn’t be anything to control, there’s 3 midi cc messages that hub can send to control pedals downstream from it on the midi out channel, and those are configurable in the global options section.

it will work on the same channel, but if you have multiple pedals all on the same channel, it makes for a headache to program individual cc messages for each pedal you want to control, and it sends that message to all the pedals, whether theirs something assigned to that midi cc or not. Just complicates things for your pedals to try to handle when they don’t need to.

The issue is I can do this, but then if I scan from the Hub anything is included in the scene, which I don't want. There are ways around that, but none are as convenient as my relatively simple feature suggestion.

I do understand it's a somewhat picky request, and maybe a highly specific use case. But when an outdated firmware does what I want, yet a new one doesn't...

Sorry to cross post this from the C4 topic, but...

I can't get the Neuro application (Mac) to see it! I've done everything I can think of and it does not appear in the connections window. How do I troubleshoot this?

You're plugging the C4 into your Mac using the USB cable right? Not through the hub? Im using PC and it worked fine for me, but you have to first plug USB into the C4 to update it before it will be recognized through the hub.

There may be as much C4 info on this thread as the actual C4 thread. Tons of stuff here regarding hub use, neuro programming, user- programs and an amazing amount of "real-world" experience from gigs.

I have learned a great deal about the C4 on this thread and been directed to numerous resources, vids, etc...and I don't even own one- yet. Still leaning towards a Spectrum which exceeds my current needs but there is plenty of room for a C4, which is not really cost prohibitive should a stocking filler be needed;)

You should not consider this an inappropriate cross-post:thumbsup:

Nope, I got no hub. USB directly from pedal to Mac. Ok, I just tried my Aftershock and it doesn't work either. Maybe it's my USB cable? Or maybe something isn't compatible with macOS Catalina?

Not sure that it will matter, but do you have the newest Neuro version? It was just released today.
I downloaded it from their website just a couple of hours ago. If that. I did see that it is a beta product. I don't really have a choice, though, because I have no way to plug it in to my iPhone Xs.

I guess I should ask this: what is the 1/4 inch audio to 1/8 inch audio cable used for? It came with the pedal in the box. Surely I'm not meant to use that to connect it to my laptop.

The 1/4 inch would plug into input 2 on the pedal and then the 1/8 inch would plug into the phone's headphone jack and then you can edit and load presets using a phone app. Not sure if it would work with an iPhone using an adapter.

Maybe try a different USB port? Are you using the USB cable that came with the pedal? Also, has the USB cable worked for previous updates in the past or is this your first experience trying to update it?
You sound just like an experienced technology support troubleshooter! I know because I am a veteran of 20 years in tech support of one kind or another :)

Nope, it's not the cable that came with the pedal. No USB cable was included in the box. I bought it used off Reverb. What was in the box was the 1/4 to 1/8 audio cable. I had to go fishing through my box of junk cables to find a matching USB to fit the pedal and my Mac. I had exactly one such cable. Perhaps it doesn't work? How often does that happen, though. It doesn't appear to be abused or over used.

I think maybe I'm just experiencing a bug in beta software on a new macOS version.

Well alright...
Updated both my Hub and C4 and I can save scenes with the C4, synch to my MIDI clock, and wob-wob-wob with my hot hand. Tomorrow I'll see if I can get some MIDI expression action going. Well done, Source Audio!

Haha never done tech support in my life, just figured those would be the steps I'd take first. I wouldn't be surprised though if its the USB cable. If its an older cable perhaps it doesn't support newer USB versions? I don't know offhand what version is the standard for USB but I think they're at version 3 or 4 so maybe that cable is for a device that was meant for an earlier version of USB.

It does work with a Lightning adapter for iPhone 8. Not sure about others.

You should look further into the 1/4" to 1/8" cable to see if that will work with an iPhone as that is quite the handy app being able to use your phone to recall new presets and edit settings on the pedals.
