Collating the answers from Gib210 and Matty Koff, both hubs should be set to MIDI out? One post says one thing, the next says differently. I figure to have a channel designation to give me the most options in this learning experience. Would that mean having both hubs on the same channel would get the correct presets combinations, granted the scenes are saved on both units for a set of parameters? Thanks to all for the assistance.

From what I understood, put them on the same channel, have soleman midi out to hub 1 (hub 1 set to midi through), into hub 2 (set to midi out) back into the soleman.

No. The hub receiving the midi out from the soleman needs to be set to midi through, and that hub needs to connect to the midi in of the second hub, and the second hub needs to be set to midi out, and then to the soleman.

In hindsight, I used "Hub 1" as a designator in my previous post as a matter of rank/importance, but is actually the second hub in the midi chain, and the one that will be sending names back to the soleman when you label them as you save them in the desktop editor.


switching scenes sends program change commands.. basically cycling 0-127, 0 being the first channel. So when you cycle channels via the soleman, for example from 0 to 1, it's basically just sending a command that says "change to 1".. from 1 to 2, it sends "program change to 2". The macros within the soleman in scene mode are cycling program change messages, but it's not saying "Up or down" to the hubs.. it's saying "Go to program #". So both hubs will be in sync the first time you cycle scenes.

Just keep all the pedals on the same channel for now, there's not really a benefit to changing the pedal channels in scene mode, and I'd recommend wrapping your head around the plug and play functionality of the soleman and hubs before attempting panel mode. It might be all you need.

Gibs didn't say differently, he summarized it better. Follow the steps in my original response to you and you're golden, no need to change channels in scene mode.
 
Very cool. Thanks to you both for you help. I have been piling up the pieces for this project for months and have hit the point of putting things together with a bit of trepidation. I guess the mysterious part for me is figuring out what is going on. I spent 20-odd years as a mechanic and knowledge of operational specifics is key. With this MIDI stuff, you get to know it works, but there is an amount of mystery involved that shakes me some. I am used to being able to examine things on a functional level. You can't monitor the messages, only see the results.

I recently bought a second hand Reflex and holy moly does it open up a world of possibilities. It is such a shame that it was discontinued and the User LFO will never be developed.

I hooked it up to my HXFX and sent the Sample Hold to the harmonizer so it would create random harmonies and also randomize the rate of a pattern trem. Glitch city. It made my board feel like a modular synth.

You can monitor the messages actually. Use something like MIDIOX on desktops or MIDI mechanic on iOS devices.

Tried this with a Meloaudio exp 001. When trying on patches the pedal seems to only have an effect on the sound over a very narrow range toward the bottom of the pedal. Is there some kind of sensitivity calibration I should be doing?

Are you doing the first step of sweeping the expression pedal all the way back and forth? That’s the calibration. Otherwise you can try manually adjusting it using the desktop editor.
 
The app just isn't doing anything. I received it a few days ago and haven't had a chance to dedicate time to troubleshooting yet, thought I'd see if there was a known issue and or quick fixes. Sounds like it should work though :thumbsup:
Try the calibration process located in the gear icon at the top right of the screen in the main pedal selection menu.
