Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

In the short time since the outage, I received and set up a Soleman Foot Controller, got a Lunar Phaser, and tonight ordered an EQ2 and the SA couplers and the other 2 Neuro cables to hook everything up. However, I've run into an odd problem with the Lunar and Aftershock, they show up in the Desktop Editor as only having 3 preset slots available, plus the 3 factory ones. I did factory resets on them and they still show the same thing.

Also, when I powered everything on together, the Soleman showed one preset I had saved, but it was not in the right spot, and was the first name for it. I powered it down and up and no change. Powered down the Hub, too, then on again, and they came up correct, but Soleman Editor did not show the presets, and wouldn't let toggle the correct Favorite preset. Hopefully, I'm just missing something simple...

Read the manuals. This is perfectly normal and there’s nothing wrong with your pedals. The earlier One Series pedals do only have 3 internal presets!

Little update w the Collider. May add the True Spring back in for extra spaciness!!!
 
I was looking at the manuals wondering if there was a way to show the 128 in the Desktop Editor, though. Or do I have to go through the phone? The manuals mention being able to save up to 128 presets, not seeing how to do that with 3 available slots shown to me.

Lunar and Aftershock only have 3 internal slots. You can get 128 via hub (ON the hub).

You get three green light patches and three red light patches. That makes six, just like the Aftershock. In my Neuro Desktop, I have 001/002/003 which are the three Red Light patches. Then I have the three Effect Selector, which are the three Green Light patches. I tend to set my SA pedals with the Quick Change Preset mode option enabled so I can swap between Green and Red patches quickly.
With my Lunar, I have a Chorus on the first position switch in both red and green patches. I have a CE-2 on the Green Patch 1 and a Quad Chorus on the Red Patch 1. My middle patch is a Phaser, Green : 4 Stage and Red : 8 Stage chewy phaser. My 3rd patches are my play pen patches and these change a lot from week to week. Currently I have a variation of the LeslieMR patch on Green and Chop Tremolo has been my Red No 3 for a while now...so that seems to have stuck. Both the patch # 3's on my Lunar have the expression pedal mapped to speed.

Plug the Hub into the desktop and you can see all connected pedals. The Hub presets will be shown in the right pane.

My Neuro Hub has 37 Aftershock Scenes, 8 Lunar Scenes and 3 C4 Scenes. Plus about 5 Scenes where I've got combination of these SA pedals. These 5 are my go to combinations that get called up a lot from my Boss ES-5 and then I use the device/pedal toggles to call up the device specific 6 patches. I use those 6 internal patches as variations to my default ES-5 patches (hub patches). So I have my default patch load out on my ES-5, I then have the flexibility to vary each effect 6 ways, while in the same ES-5 patch. The ES-5 patch handles all of my Midi assigns and Expression over midi settings. My ES-5 (4) patch is C4 focussed, allowing expression to control the C4. My ES-5 patch (5) uses pretty much the same Neuro Scene (Aftershock and Lunar), but it's modulation focused and expression controls the speed of the Lunar. Also the extra button assigns (ES-5) are different too.
The beauty of the C4, Spectrum, EQ2 is that I have the option of calling up the built in 128 patches directly (via the Hub) or call up Hub specific scenes too. I think it's really cool that SA are just using the Hub as a controller / midi relay for the Ultrawave. It means that I don't have to copy patches from the device to the hub in a convoluted manner. I can just call them in a scene on the hub.
 
Question came up on FB. Is it possible to send midi over the TRRS connection if someone has a C4 and a midi 5 pin din controller ? So a 5 pin DIN to TRRS cable as opposed to midi over USB ?

I would find it limiting as obviously there would be no thru. So a hypothetical question...

This is an important point.

Actually, wifi would be better but it requires static IP in the devices to be stable.
An example is Soundcraft Ui series digital mixers, their badly implemented wifi hotspot is a major problem.
Use cat5 cable or a static IP address for the builtin wifi and they work great.

I would amend that to mention that every single mixer that has on board wifi is badly implemented. Mostly as they all use the same OEM wifi chipset... and further that anyone relying on 2.4ghz in a live mixing environment is setting themselves up for failure.

Personally I use the on board wifi at home on my Ui-24's amd it works fine. Live, I use an external router on 5ghz for band use. For FOH I use a touch screen all in one Dell that is hard cabled to the router at FOH and use the tables for side stage monitor and wandering.

Is this for real? I long thought his life, with its brilliance and inherent tragedy, would make for a great film. Another great film candidate would be Art Pepper; if you haven’t read “Straight Life” I seriously recommend it.

I saw Art in the 70's at Jazz Workshop in Boston. A buddy and I were in the first tables. He arrived in Boston late... Before opening he takes the mic and says, the methadone clinic was closed ... looks at our table where there were two glasses of scotch. and says, I'll take whatever they are having, but make it a double...

You'd never have known he was suffering by the playing. We saw Dexter there weeks later. Probably the two best sax performances I've seen. That club had some truly amazing talent come through it.

That sounds wonderful. Yes, that place had some great gigs. I’ve got a couple of recordings from there, Mingus with Clifford Jordan being a favourite.
 
So I was ready to confirm what I mentioned earlier in here (or some other thread asking about usb midi host capable controllers..... can’t remember now) and then the website went down. But the airstep does indeed work as a host for usb pedals. So the C4, ultrawave, and spectrum will work with that midi controller and not require an additional device. The one caveat is that it lacks a display and has only 5 onboard presets. So with some clever switch programming, you could get around 50 presets out of it but it won’t be the easiest to remember. However, I have been informed by Xsonic that they’re next app update will include live mode and offer far more presets than 5 (basically it sounds like the equivalent of the neuro app with loading presets, but without saving to airstep, and using Bluetooth connection), also sounds like it will display settings, and possibly preset midi clock/tempo and such.

Major update for the EQ2 is ready for testing. For those who were really pushing to get this and are willing to test, please send me a PM with your email. Please note that this is a limited beta test release, not an official release.

New Features:
  • New low pass filter mode. In the dropdown menu for band 10, you can now select peak, shelf, or low pass. We also made some icons instead of just text. Just FYI, the slider control won’t do anything when low pass mode is selected. Frequency and Q only.
  • Extended range on the input high pass filter. Goes up to 250 Hz now.
  • Channel mute switches added – allows for additional options of muting the channels with external control or MIDI.
  • Q Scaling Mode – We added a feature that will scale the Q factor of a filter with the slider gain. The result is that the Qs become a little more narrow.
  • Improved communication scheme with the Neuro Desktop. It reduces USB traffic by only reading back the pedal data when something changes. Also speeds up the response when changing something on the hardware and how it’s reflected in the editor
  • Tuner input hardware option – there’s a new hardware option for “default” tuner input. When using the input switch mode, the tuner selection changes automatically. This sets the value that everything goes back to on power cycle or preset load. We also added a MIDI CC tuner input selection.
  • MIDI input response to waveform CCs – We have been working with a customer over a long period of time to figure this out but and finally got it working properly. The constant stream of MIDI messages had been causing some unpredictable behavior at times. Some of this was in fw 1.15 but finalized here in 1.16
  • Cascade routing mode – We hadn’t gotten around to implementing but it’s in there now. It’s an additional routing mode, mono in, mono out. Input to channel 1, channel 1 directly feeds channel 2 which goes to the output.
  • New Hardware Option for “Quick Access To Freq and Q with Encoder Push” – We had some feedback from a customer asking for an easier way to access frequency and Q without the press and hold. So here’s how it works
    • Select a band normally (push and turn)
    • Click and release the encoder, the frequency of that band will now be displayed.
    • Edit if you want, then press the encoder again
    • Now Q is displayed for that band, edit and press the encoder again
    • Display goes back to normal view
Some Neuro Desktop editor updates:
  • Changed the filter type select to icons. Looks much nicer
  • Changed the color scheme of the frequency response display for better contrast.
