Probably been asked before but is there any difference between the Aftershock (£189) and Kingmaker (£142)?

Looks like the only difference is control labels and colour?
Still has all the same distortion options and can easily overwrite the default switch presets?

Just want a quick sanity check before ordering the cheaper purple version.

Identical aside from the hardwired knobs.

Bit confusing but cool. Quite like the purple anyhow, not paying extra 25% just to have in orange.

Ordered it now. Looking forward to digging around in the Neuro settings. Have a feeling I may end up pairing with a C4 at some point.

Same with the Gemini, Mercury, Lunar.

C4 is an amazing piece of kit!

Identical aside from the hardwired knobs.

I do think that it's worth noting that the difference in knob function may be important (depending on how you use it). For bass, I do like having the blend knob on the pedal, as aftershock does, so that I can blend some clean tone in and have a more subtle fuzz or overdrive.

Either that’s a newer feature or I’ve just been really blind. The Ultrawave introduced fully assignable knobs. Perhaps they ported that functionality to the older pedals as I don’t remember that being there when I had my first Aftershock about five or six years ago.

Given that, yes, just the printed label differs so no issues with functionality.

I belive they are exactly the same unit. The default patches have Bass and Treble assigned to the two controls, the Aftershock has Mix (Clean) and Tone (similar to treble), which I then swap out on every patch to match the Kingmaker's knob options. I found that the Bass boost / cut and treble Boost / Cut to be ay more useful than a mix control on bass.

I ended up going through the desktop app vs the iPhone app and had no problem loading spectrum settings on my C4.

I actually didn’t. I was only able to make things work 100% with a usb desktop connection.

Not got my Kingmaker yet but already thinking about how to setup extra external control.

Disaster Area DMC seems overkill just for the distortion pedal. SA Tap Tempo is a bit limited, costs £40 and is chunky for just one button. Was thinking about making my own Mini Tap Button or even a dual knob X & Y expression controller with latching switch to override (On: Exp fully open, Off: Use Knobs). Looks like it will only require a few basic components to wire up to the 3.5mm TRRS control input.

I admire those who feel DIY is not only the least expensive but the overall preferred way to go when it comes to advanced midi control of the best sound source pedals in the industry. I just get the smallest, least expensive that works well unit off the shelf.

Was thinking about making my own Mini Tap Button or even a dual knob X & Y expression controller with latching switch to override (On: Exp fully open, Off: Use Knobs). Looks like it will only require a few basic components to wire up to the 3.5mm TRRS control input.

Got the Kingmaker now, sounds good.

Guess I will just make a simple Tap button instead.

That’s the beauty of external MIDI: you can have access to all parameters via expression.

Yes but Disaster Area DMC costs the same as I paid for the Kingmaker. Only need to switch between L & R channels anyhow which should work with Tap.

Can see midi would probably make more sense with the C4 or to control multiple pedals.

When I had my first Aftershock, I set channel A to audio output 1 and channel B to audio output 2; I then just used a Boss LS-2 to switch between them.

Sadly it looks like it won't work on the Aftershock / Kingmaker. The external expression X Y input is tied to the 4 physical pedal knobs rather than independently assignable so don't really gain any additional control. But the External tap function does let you switch channels etc.

However it looks like the C4 does let you assign the expression X Y independently so may still be some interesting diy control possibilities.
