Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

I’ve been in this thread before, watched the vids, etc.

Surely it’s been detailed, but I didn’t find it.

Have changed settings before on the Aftershock using a laptop. Trying for connection via iPad now.

Connected, used the calibration function in Neuro software, lights blink on all devices, but I can’t see any evidence of connection when making changes on the Aftershock or in Neuro.

On the laptop software I can upload the current Aftershock settings. I’d like to start there on the iPad and save those, as the Aftershock has settings I’d made that I don’t want to overwrite.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

That’s to be expected. The older one series that can only use the audio input 2 to connect to the pedal only have unidirectional communication with the app (in contrast to those that can be connected via usb which is a bidirectional connector).

Oh, thanks.

My pedal has both but with laptop I was connected via USB while with iPad am connected into Audio Input 2.

I’m guessing the iOS software doesn’t support ISB connectivity, or I’d get an adaptor.

Do I have this correct, in case of connecting via Audio Input 2?:

- only way to know the internal setting is to burn what’s onscreen to the pedal

- once burning to pedal, save the settings on iPad / mobile

- in future you’d need to remember which settings you burned, then if you want to make changes you’d load those saved settings from your iPad / mobile, make changes onscreen, burn to the pedal, save locally again, etc.

- AND the pedal light only flashes when burning new settings?

You should be able to save presets on the computer app into your Cloud account then access those on the Neuro Mobile app by signing in to your account. At least this works with the C4 (maybe I’m missing what you are trying to do though)

Thanks. That’d work.

Now to revive the laptop. It died awhile ago, but hard drive should be OK.

Is it the case though that, once connectivity is established (blinking light), the pedal only flashes when burning new settings?

I can’t recall if that was the case either USB connection, as it’s been awhile.

I do recall it being very interactive because if you changed settings on the knobs you’d see that reflected in real time onscreen. This really helped for dialling in the adjustments I might want to burn to it.

Has anyone been able to do a decent Wah utilizing an expression pedal instead of auto? Theres only a few things left that are making me keep my Stomp on my pedalboard and thats one of them (along with IR/amp&cab sim, and pitch shifting) I have the C4 and Ultrawave doing almost everything else.

Ventris: what do these controls do?

View attachment 5283058
Pre-delay is the time between playing a note and the onset of the reverb. The “mod depth” applies an LFO to that time as set by the “mod rate”. This basically varies that onset time cyclically.

The “pre-delay feedback” I’m less familiar with but would guess it feeds the input signal back into the reverb. (Contrast that with the “feedback (regen)” knob which feeds the output of the reverb back into itself.)

Thanks. I could hear the feedback control “doing something” but not the mod depth.

There does not appear to be any documentation on these controls.
Yes, I was surprised at that when I looked in the manual. @rsmith601, @NPappas this probably needs addressing.

There are unfortunately quite a few things that are shown in Neuro that aren't explained anywhere.

I recently got a Ventris (last week) and I had the same questions. BTW, I am super-thrilled with this pedal!!!

I assumed that Pre-dly mod would give you another source of pitch mod, and feedback would just add the pre-delay as another delay/echo option-- but it sounds like that might not be so?

Also, sometimes we see Custom 1, 2, 3... and Soft Control are in the assigns list. But there's no mention of it. I thought it might refer to the parameters that are engine-specific, if so, they could put matching labels-- but perhaps call them "Engine 1, 2, 3... etc., or "special 1,..."

There are two seemingly contradictory descriptions of what TREBLE control does. It would be useful to know even roughly what frequency the BASS control (presumably a shelf?) works on. Pre-delay feedback high & low cut aren't mentioned. I suppose they're self-explanatory as long as the Pre-Delay is just a simple delay line.

I really think Source Audio should merge the User Manual and not have separate guides for the pedal and the pedal with Neuro. The manual could have a "what you get out-of-the-box" section, and then a more advanced Neuro section, but that way I don't have to open and search both manuals to find stuff.

And BTW, does anyone else get annoyed by the constant pop-up to subscribe when visiting the SA website?

Man, I sure sound grumpy, don't I? Get off my lawn!!!

Well, when you have to go to the website for certain documentation, and you’re already mad because you can’t find out what that one knob does, and you even gritted your teeth through a youtube video that almost explains it, but then skips right over it… then yes.

I try to get all my swearing done before I post on the internet, but that time I almost didn’t make it. :bored:

I went back and listened to the pre-delay feedback. I set the pre-delay time to max, and then set the pre-delay feedback to max to make it obvious. There’s an echo that trails off on the reverb decay.

Pre delay is essentially a delay type of effect, at least on room, edome, echoverb and a few other engines. Echoverb is more tuned to use it as a delay, (2 seconds of delay time) the other engines I believe max out at either 500ms or 1 second of delay time. So pre delay mod depth sets the depth of modulation for the delay lines like on a delay pedal. You can set the pre delay time low so and the feedback can be used to essentially thicken up the reverb sound. Or set the time long and use as a traditional delay, but blended with the reverb more than say stacking a delay in front of a reverb pedal. I used to use echoverb and some of the other delay engines as a psuedo delay pedal, when I was using the nemesis for more wacky effects, then I incorporated a collider, so that gets used more for secondary delay/reverb sounds when nemesis and ventris are doing more extreme things.
