so it's been about a year for me and my MWDP
It is so versatile and awesome, and I continue to fine-tune things. It took months, MONTHS I tell you, to even get a handle on it, throughout which time it could sometimes sound thin or dry or too synthy/grating and without character. But through constant listening to clips, tweaking the thing, and non-stop gigging it has become such a powerful tool to smack people in the face (you know, on a musical level).... I just can't say enough about this thing.
For those buying it or on the fence about it I would just say that there is either a long learning curve, or a lot to discover in there. Running through the many presets gives you an idea of the "flavor" and basic sounds of this pedal, and one might find a couple or a few usable things right there.
But to me the real power of this thing is the combination of: the subtle differences between presets, the EQ, and the EQ blend function. When these things are combined in sometimes unconventional ways, with unconventional blends, the pedal can do all kinds of very conventional things, some great OD sounds, (which the thing is not exactly well-known for), I can get a very good SVT sound out of this thing, even blueberry like grunts and even a kind of B3k simulation. Just play around with it for like a year.
This is of course, in addition to madness morphing and sonically melting peoples' faces. It is capable of so many weapons in this area that it is hard to narrow it down to a few presets.
I get compliments all the time from bassists, some way better than me, about how my distortion sounds are so awesome and retain all the low end and definition, and OMG it's so awesome etc. etc..... sometimes when I fine-tune these sounds, I'm surprised at how much or little of this or that I have dialed in, but in the mix it cuts through beautifully.
It has also served as an emergency (very clean) preamp, a clean boost, a solo octave-up, and electric piano distortion. If you are thinking about getting it, I say just get it. ESPECIALLY if you have no other distortion pedals and are trying a bunch of sounds out trying to define what you like or don't like, and are a patient dude.
It's so cool and almost deceptively (based on a quick running through of presets with standard EQ's) deep that you will forget to take the protective plastic off for like 6-8 months and then all of a sudden the thing will look brand new again!
