Quick question:
Is it normal for the All Things Equal to add a little bit of dirt to my signal, even when set to the clean setting on the switch? I might need to mess around with settings more, but I’m definitely getting some mild distortion with it in my chain, vs when I take it completely out of it.

Where do you have the volume set in the ATE? Unity is between 10 and noon. Often distortion from the ATE is caused by it clipping something else in your chain. If you reduce the level on the ATE does it go away?

I’ll give that a shot. I was treating noon as unity and going up from there. I’ve got it right after my wireless on my board, so I’ll do some more futzing with the levels and report back. (I’m guessing this is user error, I just wanted to make sure it isn’t normal before I go readjusting everything).
And, Utility Knife bought and paid for from Pedal Boss on Reverb. Should be the perfect solution to free up board space by replacing 3 pedals that I only use a couple times per night.
Very recently I’ve found that my Fifth Gear v2 adds a huge amount of ungodly hum to my signal when on a daisy chain. I’ve never had this issue before. The Heat knob is also incredibly scratchy and at some settings seems almost microphonic and continues to crackle even after I’ve stopped turning it. Any thoughts? I’m well within the mA limits of the daisy chain and without the FG on my board I get no noise from the rest of my pedals when on the daisy chain.
Sounds like a component has been damaged. Crackling if the knob is not turning sounds like a busted cap potentially. Any chance it got more than 9v or reverse polarity? If this wasn't happening when you got it, either something has come loose or something stopped working.
How does it sound plugged in on it's own? Are the same issues present? Have you put a new pedal in front of it, or are you daisy chaining with a new pedal?
What's your power supply? Any crackle is going to be related to changing power at the transistor. Either because something in the pedal is broken, or something supplying the pedal isn't up to snuff.

EDIT: another thing I thought of - if you have one of the small box Fifth Gears, one of the jacks may have become ungrounded. This could cause all of the issues described above and is a very quick fix. If that's the case PM or email a pic of the inside of the pedal please and I'll let you know.

After some messing around with levels, etc, I’ve got perfectly clean tones coming from the ATE now. So it was, in fact, user error on my part!! Thank you for the prompt response on it!
One time, at band rehearsal, I couldn’t figure out why my signal was so distorted, a messy unpleasant distortion. It took me about 3 minutes to figure out my Keeley Bassist output knob got boosted about 20db in transit.
Good gain staging is vital.

Utility Knife arrived today.
Along with freeing up board space (I sold my flanger, phaser, and chorus pedals), this thing really sounds great! Definitely not cheap sounding effects, each one sounds very good to my ears. I’m very impressed!!

And, my 3rd Southampton pedal arrived today. I liked the sound of the Fifth Gear circuit so well in my All Things Equal pedal (but need that pedal to stay clean), that I picked up a Fifth Gear V2 to add to my board.
Well, you guys are making some pretty killer pedals, so thank you for that.
Between Southampton and Broughton, there is some very cool stuff coming out of Canada these days.
I’ve gigged it a few times now, and it really sounds great live.
Next on my list...I’d kind of changed my mind about wanting any kind of modulation pedal but this vid changed my mind again. Plus, I need a flanger for a reunion gig next month with a band I was in back in ‘89. Got the Ictineo about 2 weeks ago and I’m hooked on it...definitely a keeper!
I have no use for it where I jam right now but I love it and it's staying on my home board in my den
