Yeah it was a demo. It's easier for Stuart and PJ to see a concept to be able to approve the creative direction than to explain it. So this is the first version and it was done quickly and a little sloppily to get the idea across.

The final stuff is much better, cleaner, etc...

There's a bunch of companies that start gearing up for the show and they start putting a bunch of releases... basically about nothing... out there to build hype.

What my plan for SPECTOR has been is a very slow burn and starting this coming week... one week before the show, start sharing previews and things to come that have substance.

I don't like to build hype because to be hype is just hot air. I like to build excitement and get people interested in what's coming so there's something real. Credibility is important. And to the guys to are putting FB announcements up every hour talking about how they represent the company with the best quality, best builds, etc... period... it just comes across like something a used car salesman would say.

And so I've told Stuart and PJ we're going to do something that has a little more substance. And they totally agreed.

The new video series with Nicki Tedesco, who besides being one heck of a great bassist (she's been playing bass/guitar since she was like 11... and not to give a lady's age away, but she's classically trained and she actually teaches music at a local university), is super adorable and very easy on the eyes and ears.

She's done an amazing job putting together original tracks to show off the tonal range of a number of Euro-Series basses (we'll tackle USA's and Professional Series next).

So these videos, which will be on the website right on the page with the model being demoed... are going to be awesome in helping people.

That'll be really great! That'll save people (me)from searching all over YouTube for the guitar they want to hear. Thank you & Kudos JPS!!!

Sales numbers I think... making a guess. I know at one point there were a lot of dealers not asking for new Legend Customs because they already had ones in stock that we're selling.

For the cost increase for the set-neck, the tone wasn't that much different (meaning increased sustain) than the Legend Classic. So I guess they made a decision to focus just on the Classic Models.

Honestly, your're the first person in forever that's even asked.

First, if you had bothered to look at the original post with the link to the DVD animation demo, I clearly stated that the music was a temp track so that I could show the concept to Stuart and PJ. That song is "They Came In" by the Butthole Surfers... and I'm not aware that any bassist with that band has ever owned or played a SPECTOR. And I can tell you that track isn't "powered by SPECTOR".

I don't have copyright to use that song and if I did, I still wouldn't. And even IF that was a SPECTOR bass.

Now if it was a SPECTOR Bass and SPECTOR Guitars AND I had copyright clearance... that might be a different thing.

I said unlicensed music. So no covers of other people's songs. And if you wrote a song with your band, that's not going to work either because I need samples of SPECTOR bass tone and guitar tone.

I'm not making a movie here. So the "soundtrack" is real simple... I don't care if it's you with nothing but your bass playing a simple melody you came up with... that's perfect.

The DVD is about showing off the basses and guitars and the resulting tone. It's not about promoting any particular artist or band, any owners or players.

Sorry. This is a marketing tool for dealers to give to people who may want to know more about what Spector does and what makes a Spector so great.

And I have tracks from SPECTOR Artists and guys like Sam (Lima) who used ARC6, or RX-GT electrics to make their tracks.

The purpose of this DVD is to highlight and promote SPECTOR Products.

Since SPECTOR doesn't make drums or keyboards, etc... then tracks with that sort of instrument where the SPECTOR Bass or SPECTOR Guitar being is used as the main instrument are fine.

But I'm not putting anything from ANYONE where the guitars and bass are NOT SPECTORs. Doug Wimbish could say, "Hey you're cleared to use Living Colour tracks" and I'd respectfully decline. Because Vernon Reed doesn't play SPECTOR Guitars.

There's no double standard here. If you want to be a part and submit a track. Or bother reading the posts all the way so you don't start seeing some conspiracy or something and accuse someone of unfair dealings that hasn't and won't happen.

I asked for help. To me it's a way that I can use my position as a consultant with the company to shed some light on the many dedicated people in the group who want to participate.

It's a way to show some love and give thanks to the NON-ENDORSED SPECTOR musicians out there who are proud to share their love of their bass or guitar. These videos will be on my site, SPECTOR's site, YouTube, and in DVD format for dealers and fans around the world to enjoy.

If this was some company conspiracy to show favoritism... why even invite you to participate?

And I hear you, but the problem is that the budget for this doesn't allow for the separation of the two. And honestly there are only four guitar lines as opposed to a dozen bass lines. So they have to go together... besides this is for dealers mostly. I'm making it consumer friendly but the first goal of this project is to orient the dealers to the product lines.

It's just we don't want to create confusion. If it's a track with a killer guitar tone... I don't want to have to say... yeah... but that's a Les Paul. You know?

By necessity. There just isn't enough material to justify two disks. The basses could easily stand alone. But the guitars are not there yet.

Oh no... it's very structured. But having tracks with featured guitar licks and a Spector bass in the background is cool just as if a bass was doing a solo with a rhythm guitar track.

I'm looking for as many options as possible honestly. But I don't want to be put in a place of putting a guitar track on and if it's not a Spector... I don't want to take credit for someone else's tone. If that makes sense.

No offense to you Mac lovers... but the website works awesome on the Droid platform... I have both a Droid phone and tablet.

Apple made a really bad move in not supporting Flash in my opinion. So not that I don't like people who choose to use the iPad/iPhone... but Apple is the one making your life difficult. I'm not going to conform to their standards, have to use their software and video rendering systems, just so their users can see something that anyone using a dozen different devices outside of their system can easily see.

Apple is loosing market share and I'm glad. They're one of the companies on my list of, "Nope, don't care what you pay I don't want to work with you" list.

Sorry. But those guys are jerks. And their OS is not the end all be all. I'm going into more and more editing studios and music studios and seeing Windows run PCs and not Mac Pros and there's a reason for it.



Believe it or not... the DVD is the same cost to print/replicate.

And ALL of the content will be online and available. So it's the best solution really.

Sound familiar and close to home? Myself and other Apple users buy Apple for their quality of product. Sound familiar? So your not willing to add a couple more lines of code that are basically cut & paste, of "Quick Time" in your website language to accommodate the SPECTOR "Customers", which help enable us to make purchases??? I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around this concept. Because you have a perverbial axe to grind with Apple??? In my family I have 2 web page designers and a software design engineer. I'm well aware of what it takes to add code to a website. I used MS based PCs until 2005 when I started our business and got tired of having to constantly reformat my PCs. We switched to Apple and I haven't had to reformat not "1" of the multitudes of Macs and we haven't looked back since. Not to mention not having to load up our hard-drives with virus and spyware protectors. You know how many virus' our Macs had in 7 years? "Zero"

Just to clarify for JPS since I have discussed with this with him.

He is creating a promo DVD for Spector Basses and Guitars that will be “Official Digital Literature” that will be given to Spector dealers in the USA and overseas.

I don’t think he is trying to exclude anyone, he just requested that the material submitted for the final DVD be of Spector Basses or Guitars only.

For the reason of keeping it pure and exclusive to Spector basses and guitars only.

Think of it this way,
How would we feel if there is a track on the DVD of a Spector ARC 6 guitar with an obvious “Fender style thump” for a bassline underneath?

I don't think it really matters who it is directed at. You remind us that you have a close relationship with Pj and Stuart and you work for them as a consultant and photographer, I believe. With that being said you represent the company in this thread and on this forum so when you take such a hostile attitude with a paying customer and fan it just doesn't sit well with me.

I understand you're passionate about Spectors and your work. I also understand someone misunderstanding what you've said and possibly twisting it around being frustrating. However, most fans in this thread are almost equally devoted to the brand. Spector fans are more loyal to the company than most other fans are to any other company. IMO. You could have said what you needed to say with much less attitude.

Alot of these guys seem to hold you in high regard and look to you for Spector advice and answers and because of your attitude with a couple of post it'd be easy to turn current or future buyers off.

Most Spector club members will probably hate me now as well as you. Lol

FYI JPS I did read "ALL" the thread and what you had to say. But when somebody says,"This is just a sample", that to me says the finish product will be similar. Evidently I wasn't the only one that felt that way too.
I do appreciate doing a "better" job of explaining how this is going to be. Thank you.

Well, it looks like things have (hopefully) been resolved for now.

Also, has anyone else given my 2 tracks a listen? (shameless plug, I know, lol). I'd like to get some more opinions on them. If I have time later tonight I may do some more recording just to try and find some settings that I really like with the Spector.

I think the bass was coming from the left channel only...but then again, that could be my faulty computer...
