Which one is your favorite tone wise?
Things have been lagging a bit on the album. Holidays and my guitar player moved recently so we just BARELY got together this past week. LOL Sorry I couldn't get that axefx patch to you. My guitar player actually sold it because he didn't dig the guitar sounds he was getting. I still have more pictures to show. And yeah things have been going great! I take it you are finally over being sick? LOL!!! haha
Well for LIVE situations the 83 Brooklyn (#645) sounds KILLER. But for recording purposes, right now the Black/Blue SSD 4 string sounds the best. I've yet to make a total commitment on it on the album I'm recording because I'm still waiting on my Black Cherry SSD Hazlab installation (today actually). Also going to buy another HazLab and dump it into my Amber SSD 4 (I recently snagged off Ebay)

Very cool. The Brooklyn has a bad ass correct? Both p/j basses? Or is the ssd DC equipped? Great collection.

Can anyone help me indentify this Spector? It's listed as a "Professional Series Legend 4" but the link to the guitar center listing isn't the same bass. It looks sweet, but I'd like to research the model first. Any help would be appreciated.

Both black Brooklyns have the BADASS bridge. The white one has a "Spector" bridge. All of my USA SPECTORS are P/J configurations with HAZLAB USA 9V Preamps. In the next month or so I will have all USA electronics in my basses. The only ones out of my collection that don't currently have Hazlabs are the Euro 4LX (red one), SSD 5 (black which will be upgraded from a 9V to an 18V) and my Amber SSD which has yet to arrive.

Wow, catching up with this thread is like work sometimes. 
A short word on the flats thing. I played rounds for a long while and never could get the tone I was looking for. Then I started researching and found something strange... all of my favorite bass tones (Steve Harris, Cliff Williams, Roger Waters, Mike Gordon, early John Paul Jones Zep stuff, etc.)were produced using flats, and many of them using flats with a pick. So the tone search began and I went through several brands of flats and found Chromes and TI's to be the perfect fit for me. They aren't dark and muddy, they are extremely punchy, string, deep, clear, and never get lost in the mix.
The thing that drives me batty the most is that people keep saying that flats are just for old school Motown thump. Sure they're great for that, but you can get an aggressive serviceable rock tone out of them as well. Steve Harris and Cliff Williams are two good examples of that, and there are more. These ain't your daddy's flatwounds were playing with today.

The fastest neck is the NS-20. Super easy to play and feels smooth as silk. The Euro 4LX is the thickest of the bunch but even that isn't too bad. The SSD 5 string is a LOAD though. Wow. Definitely my heaviest bass. But it sounds killer so I guess that's all that matters

Has anyone upgraded their SSD 5 (they used an early Czech model 9V preamp) or Euro 5LX 9V to a USA 18V preamp? I know the USA 18V only has 3 knobs/pots, so a "dummy" knob would have to work... Other than that, is there enough space in the control cavity for the USA 18V without damaging any electronics? Any info on the matter would be appreciated.
