I got my NS20005! Pics forthcoming after a lil cleanup and test drive.

Also I had NO IDEA that the NS20005 is actually a 35" scale bass! Nothing said it on the spector site so I assumed it was a 34.

edit edit edit: Obvious mod to 18v, and is that little board even the stock preamp?

I must have knocked something loose, or rather, back into place when I opened it because now it sounds pretty darn good when i roll the treble all the way off (too harsh!) and back off the bass so the mids really shine through. Perhaps this baby can be saved.

Has anyone installed the mighty mite preamp into one of these? The cavity looks like it might be big enough, but I don't have the tools to properly widen the cavity if it won't fit. I want something with a blend, this volume-volume setup stinks.

edit edit: thankfully it seems the black mess between the bridge and the bridge pickup is shielding paint, and it comes off easily so far with no damage to the finish underneath.

I got my inexpensive NS4CRFM today! Pics will be coming soon, I'm going to clean her up a little and get some new strings on her.

First impression, she needs a little love cosmetically, but it's actually not that bad. It has a Haz copy in it (mighty mite I think), but I am considering replacing it with a Tonepump or the 18v USA preamp. PJ said the 18v fits, but the controls will be in a different place. Has anyone put a that pre in and know exactly how will the controls be different?

Yep got one in mine. A slight mod needed on some of the boards and the holes need to be opened up but it fits like it should.

Couple of questions for you guys. I want to hear myself more in the mix. Thinking of getting an earpiece but I have never tried one, so I am looking for recommendations.
So what does the Spector gang recommend?

Also, I need to mike myself singing while practicing. Not sure what to run the mike into even. (lol, doh question!). So suggestions on a mike and what to run it into are welcome. Not looking to spend a ton of money but like everyone, I need something decent.

Thanks, and I cant believe how fast this board goes!!

What is your amp setup? get your cab up higher so it hits you in the chest

For a cheap mic that sounds decent, I recommend BEHRINGER XM8500 DYNAMIC VOCAL MICROPHONE+MIC CLIP AND STAND ADAPTER | eBay I use it for practice and Sennheiser for live. You woud want to get a small PA to run vocals, I picked up a small mixer, power amp and 3 mains/monitors for ~$500 but we are loud.

The Fender passport stuff is pretty good and cheap used. its a complete little PA system in different sizes...

Totally. My Euro4LX (bought new from Bass Central) had the gold Euro bridge. Because I play with a pick and I have long fingers, I rest the center of my palm on the back upper corner of the bridge as an anchor for when I am playing with a pick.

Within 3 or 4 months of getting that bass I noticed that that corner was turning more silver in color and becoming dull.

In 6 months I'd worn through that finish completely.

One of the reasons I like the USA Bridge (besides it's heavier) is that being solid premium brass I've yet to put as much as a dent in that finish.

Of course I play more and more with just my fingers these days. But it's definitely not a fluke that your finish is wearing off on your Euro. That happens.

The 18v is a 3 knob, 2 of which are mounted on the board. You will probably need to enlarge the holes to accommodate the solid shaft pots. Also, you will need to install a dummy pot, switch, plug, etc.

My old band kinda splintered, and the new one will be playing more classic rock stuff...I'll be trying to pull off bass and keys....should be interesting. I was also trained on piano growing up, but quit playing due to burnout 20 years ago. Been playing again for about 2 months now.
