I'm wrestling with a Bongo vs. Spector dilemma myself but from the standpoint that I already own both. I have too many basses and need to offload something.

Of my four EBMM's two are Stingrays, one of which is 10 years old and isn't going anywhere for sentimental reasons. My other is a new SR5 HH which gives me the exact 'Ray tone I was always looking for.

Back in 2008 I basically had a choice between buying a Bongo 5 and a Euro 5 and I wound up going for the Bongo due to price. I loved the bass when I got it and I still think it's a great bass. The 5HH is a very aggressive sounding bass and has a nice "grind". But then I got my Euro 5 two years ago, and I just felt like it had a more "sophisticated" grind for lack of a better term.

And let's face it, in terms of looks, the Bongo would be like that girl who's kind of ugly but in a cute sort of way, but the Spector is the hot model that makes you drool just at the thought of touching her. :)

So basically I feel like the Bongo is redundant for me as I think the Spector Euro is a better aggressive sounding bass, and if I still feel like I want the EBMM type of sound I can go to my Stingrays.

So to summarize my long-winded post, I think you should get your hands on a Euro and see for yourself. You know the looks are there, but these things just have a sound and feel that I haven't felt in another bass.

I did that with my 5 stringer Bongo and it blew me away haha. The Bongo's mids are just too much for me, looking to replace it with 4 stringer as well. The main reason I checked out Spector first is because I heard that the string spacing is narrow. I love my fiver's string spacing.

That wouldn't be the first time that has been done, haha. Just be careful....some GC's try and pull strange things saying that you need to return it to the store that you bought it from which is a complete joke.

As an FYI though, all 3 of my Spector's were bought without every playing one before and I love all 3 of them. The reality is, not everyone has a dealer that is close by that stocks these basses so it makes it a bit tough to compare them to others.

True. I bought mine from basscentral without ever playing one. I just knew the sound I wanted and I knew SPECTOR had that sound. I sold a Stingray5 that I just loved. Wish I knew where it went. I sold it to get the 20 anniversary Stingray5 HH. That bass just didn't do it for me. I love the aggressive mid forward tone of the Stingray and I knew SPECTOR has that and then some. So after reading this thread and listening to sound clips I bought it. The neck took a little getting used to as the Stingray5 is thinner and has the oil and wax finish to it. Since having my Euro5LX for about a year now I can honestly say I wouldn't go back to the SR5. Though I would like to have my old one back for nostalgic reasons.

3) she's a pro. She looks at what needs to be done and she does it.

So no... she's the type of person who fought through any discomfort she might have felt in playing an extra-long scale instrument and she powered through it.

No offense to those of you who do feel that 35" scale basses are difficult or uncomfortable to play... this very cool lady isn't hearing it. She rocks with the best of them and has a blast doing it.

Very awesome JPS! Thanks! I miss playing a 35" bass...I won't order anything but 35" from here on out. It comes easy for me with my ape like arms and large hands. Haha :bassist::D

Ok I know I ask a lot of questions but here';s another that I've been curious about.

While I was looking over Spectors this weekend, I noticed the TW's on a Euro 4 are farther apart than on a 5 or 6. From what I can tell the bridge pickup on a 4TW is closer to the bridge than on a 5 or 6. Anyone know why that is?

I would guess its because of the scale difference. 4 strings are 34 and the 5/6'ers are 35in scale.
