Well, my ears will certainly thank me!

As for the weight though, My Mapleglo Ric 4004Cii weighs about 1/2 as much as my NS4.
Weight isn't really an issue for me, but comfort, playability and tone are, and in that respect, nothing even comes close to the monsterous tone I get from my Spectors.
I'll probably always have a few non-Spector basses in the stable, but after 30 years of searching for the perfect bass & MY sound, I finally found everything I was looking for in Spector basses.

See, that is the thing I am curious about with the Forte 5. They list the 9V Haz as an option but I was always under the assumption that the 9V circuit can't be used with a bass with dual DC's which is why they use the 18V Haz with the NS-5XL and NS-4.

As I understand it, the reason they use the 18v on the US 5'ers is for the head room that 18v circuits provide. I believe the 9v works well just has a bit more grit and growl to the overall tone. :bassist:

...but, I may be wrong...

Hmm, valid argument. I think I've seen some NS-4's over the years though with the USA 9V circuit, so maybe it can be done, that's just what they choose to go with to differentiate from the classic NS-2 sound?

Funny, I was actually comparing my '73 Rick to my NS-2 last night.

My Rick is about 8.5lbs and the NS-2 is a solid 10lbs.

That being said the NS-2 is FAR more comfortable. The contoured body is so nice and the balance is great. I may get a nice padded Spector Strap for the NS-2 just for those long gigs, but I havent felt fatigued or sore yet.

That is my mission and I have chosen to accept it :) I want to find out if it's possible to put a 9V Haz into a Forte 5 with Dual DC's. Like you spector_boogie, I have that body style with the 18V circuit so if I could get a 9V Haz in a Forte 5, that would just rule and give the best of both worlds in my opinion.

Hey Guys,
I just wanted to let you know that I deleted the listing for my Euro. You were right I think i would regret it later.

I do have some newbie questions regarding the Haz pre that everyone is talking about. The Haz isn't gain adjustable right? Sound impact wise would it be like the non adjustable Tonepump? Sam must have some comparison soundclips right? What are your likes and dislikes of the Haz?

The HAZ is not gain adjustable, but I didn't find it to be overly hot neither underpowered. Just works.
IMO/IME that helps make the classic "Spector sound". It's a part of the puzzle. My Brooklyn when recording pretty much needed 0 in the way of treatment, it just "fit" in a mix. I can only imagine what a J/J bass with the HAZ would sound like... :hyper:
It just gives you that inherent growl that Spectors are known for and everything else tries to sound as good as... :smug::smug:

you can't go wrong with the HAZ, you won't have gain problems with it

I haven't read through all the messages and apologize up front if I'm repeating what has been said.

The Spector USA through-necks, Euros and ReBops all have the fully carved and curved bodies. The Spector USA Bolt-on neck basses have the flatter, less curved bodies. They are all comfortable to play.

Correct, the Haz doesn't have an adjustable gain. Comparing the sound impact between the Haz and non adjustable tonepump is night and day due to the tonepump having a super hot output and the Haz being much lower.

As a comparison, I have an adjustable tonepump in my Euro 5LX and the 18v Haz in my NS-5XL. To get them to a similar output, I had to adjust the tonepump down to about 30% to bring them to a volume level that is pretty much the same. When I plug in my Rebop 5 that has a non adjustable tone pump, I literally need to turn everything down because it is so much louder than everything else. I plan on replacing that very soon though so I can have all 3 of my Spectors at a similar output level.

It can be done brothers!!

Carlton has the 9 volt haz in all his basses (I know he has a different pickup configuration) and when I was going to order the Forte 6 string, in e-mailing with PJ about it, it was going to be no problem to put the 9 volt Haz in it.

If it is in your Euro, the holes might have to be widened a bit, but not much. I put the 9 volt Haz in a Euro Doug Wimbish signature I used to have, My tech said it was very easy, he didn't have to widen the holes and only charged me $20 to put it in.

It made the bass sound much Smoother IMHO. I would have never got rid of that bass, but I just didn't like the feel of the smaller nut, big hands I guess.

Eagle = landed. Right on the hood of my car! LOL! This thing is super solid. Neck is a tiny bit on the chunky side, but still feels great, and again - solid! Can't wait to plug it in. :bassist: Better pics eventually...
