Nothing wrong with getting an amp first. I think there are quite a few bassists out there who buy a bunch of nice basses, & then end up dissatisified because their amp is not up to snuff. Every bass you own will only sound as good as the amp that it is played through, so save those pennies & choose wisely - your Spector will thank you!

Figure out what kind of tone your after and buy it right the first time.

Nice to have a fellow flying nun in the house! Yeah with what we had to do to pass the basic and advanced soldering classes ...... Lol yeah we can get it done.

No kidding...you're USAF too?! Those instructors were brutal I tell ya...and I already had plenty of solder experience. Lol

Yep. METNAV here. ( meteorological and navigation systems. VOR, TACAN etc.). Yeah solder classes were 6 weeks of a pita. I knew how to solder going in also. Examining solder joints under magnification....Uugh. good times..... Lol spent a year in tech school in biloxi. That was the best part lol.

i completely agree my friend. i want to take what i have and see what will give me a "close to true" tone without breaking my wallet too much. lol. i will be patient. the force is with me

For those in the know, I'm thinking about installing a Haz pre in my white Euro LX4. How close will this get me to the tone of a USA NS2? Would the Haz sound better (i.e. more like an NS2) in my plum CRFM4 with its solid maple wings?

the haz will sound amazingly good in your white euro. yours and mine will be twins then. I don't think you need to replace the bts in the plum, IMHO. that's a great underrated pre in the early Czech basses.

Agreed - the EMG pre sounds much better than the TonePump, imho. If I put the Haz in in the plum, then the EMG pre would definitely go in Whitey.

I was just thinking the same thing! Rather than hot-rodding my 2 euros, I'm pondering selling one or both of them (along with a Ric or two & my EBMM Stingray) and grabbing a 2nd USA NS4 - namely the redwood-topped beauty currently residing at Bass Central...

I changed the tone-pump in my Ian Hill to a haz...not much different,....but most euro's have different sound...its weird but maybe Sam can explain it.
