Thanks man. So results today, my leukemia is back. I started chemo today and will have it all week with the next 2 weeks to recover crom the chemo. It will knock down the leukemia hopefully enough so I can go to Mayo clinic in Minnesota and have a bone marrow transplant. I will be there for around 3 months. Lots of time for some "Spector Healing" and woodsheding. Hopefully my NS-2 will be here by then and I can have lots of time to get to know him...

Thanks for all the support guys, it means more to me than you will ever know.

Obviously I don't know you and I am new to the Spector Brethren but I wanted to tell you my Mom is a 10 year breast cancer survivor. They caught it early and she is still doing great. Just give her all support you can and I hope someone can do the same for you. And don't discount the healing powers of the Spector. Just ask Sam. (Limaguy)

Love carpenter films. You know he scored most of them himself. Which explains why so many of them sound alike.

Yeah, I saw that in the opening credits and thought that was pretty neat. I love that nice bluesy motif that plays throughout the movie.

And let's not forget "I come in peace."

Yup, that movie is a perfect example right there. Even watching just the credits had me rolling for multiple reasons. The outfits they were wearing (especially Jeff Goldblum) and the cheesy synthesized music that as playing throughout the credits. Man, that was a serious cast in that movie though and you are right, I wish they made a sequel.

And let's not forget Megaforce. Probably the absolute worst of the entire bunch.

It's a good kind of scarring though. It's those films that really demonstrated where pop culture was at at the time. And as kids, that's what we had for entertainment, so there's a huge nostalgia factor. Not that it makes any of them better films...

Same back at you, Jamie. Anytime I can help someone, I definitely consider it a privilege to be able to do so, so my thanks to you as well.

I am also really appreciative of Sam, Chuckles, John, Jaymi, Tony, Patrick, Donny, Michael, Chris (and many others) as well who have all gone out of their way to make me feel welcome and are always there with a helping hand or word of encouragement or advice.

I don't do social networking stuff (said waving my cane and yelling in a crotchety, curmudgeonly manner at the children running down the street disturbing my peaceful time on the porch. Those little bastards, don't they know that their Atari games and disco clothes are going to ruin this country? Don't they!!!????). No Facebook, no myspace, no twitter, etc. I just never got into it. But this Spector club is one of those bonuses about being a bass player in general and being a Spector owner in particular that has been a really wonderful surprise. It's definitely helped me learn quite a lot and given me a chance to participate in a unique community where I get opportunities to help people out in the small ways that I'm able to. It's a great thing.

Special shout out to Steve (smadder) after a great long talk with him the other night We ordered EMG DCs and a BQC to upgrade my Rebop! I can't wait.

On another note, if you don't know Steve yet, make some time to get acquainted! He's a great person who is always willing to help a brother out. He definitely know his way around the EMG products that for sure! Thanks Steve.

Also on another note, I have had conversations with Jaymi and chats with Sam. Both these guys are great assets to the club......but you all already know this. Thanks to the three of you. The whole club has been very welcoming to me! This is a great group!

I want to try out a set of flats on my JAR and am stuck between which to try.

I have used both TI and black label Sadowskys before, but don't have the budget to spend on those right now, especially since it's an experiment. The qualities I liked in them though were flexibility, light gauges, and clarity.

I'm on Amazon and I have a small pile in my shopping cart, but aren't too sure which to jump on:

Chromes: ECB80 or ECB81
Half rounds: ENR70 or ENR71
Rotosound: SM77

The Rotos are tempting because they match the gauges of the Steel rounds I have on the bass now, but they're over $30 and all of the D'Addarios are under $25.

Based on what I liked about the TI's and the Sadowsky strings, what would you all recommend?

Hey guys,

I'm going to let my Bubinga Legend Custom 4 (set neck) go. I had a sinister plan to install some 35P and J's in it along with a Tone Pump for a serious sleeper. I don't like using the term MINT but this sucker is pretty dang close. I have it strung with chest thumping Cobalt's and the action is SICK low. The neck on this bass is very similar to a Kramer 2A. Very sleek and fast. For those that don't know it has a 3 band EG (stacked bass/treble) and vol/vol. $420 shipped to the 48 for the club price. I'll let it marinade here for a few days before it goes to the masses. Let me know...

Here's the short version borrowed from a ubiquitous internet source: "Set-in neck is a method of guitar (or similar stringed instrument) construction that involves joining neck and body with a tightly fitted mortise-and-tenon or dovetail joint, secured using some sort of adhesive."

Can someone explain what a set neck is and how it's different than a neck through. Is it bolted down and then filled and sealed? Thanks.

A neck through is where the neck, in Spector's case Maple, goes from the top of the headstock all the way to the end of the body, through pickups, bridge and sometimes electronics. The "wings" are the parts of the bass body that a glued (with strong adhesive) onto the neck. And what ubnomnar said is a set neck.
This is a Neck through Spector. Notice the maple goes all the way down. The "wings" are the spalted maple/walnut.
