Greetings all, I've just recently discovered the wonders of Spector basses and in the last two months acquired these three examples. I am really partial to the neck dimensions on the NS2000/4. The NS-2A I bought from JeffplaysBass here on TB. The Rebop has the original TP non-trim with EMG 35P & 35J pickups, I am now in the process of saving for a Euro Wimbish. The 12'ver is a custom on loan from the owner of Oktober Guitars. So, how do I go about joining and getting a membership number?

I am curious if anyone has compared the SVT setting on the RBI/RPM to an actual Ampeg tone and if they are close?

Well I don't have the RBI or RPM but I was playing around with my BDDI yesterday connected into my Ampeg B-15T portaflex...I played a whole song without and then with the BDDI connected...I set the knobs to the SVT settings and adjusted my Forte 5 pots to center first, later I dialed them to different settings to try to get "that" sound. To my ears, I liked the tone of my rig without the BDDI connected to it. But that was just one setting. I'm going to play around with more settings and hear what I can get differently. With the Power Slinkies strings on my Forte 5, they really bring out that raspy growl! One thing that I did notice connected to the BDDI box, my volume about doubled! Whoa! Caught me by suprise too! Lol My poor wife "was" napping at the time about 10 feet in front of my rig. Oops! Lol

I think there was a big movement several years back when all the sansamp stuff got really popular where every company was claiming "sounds just like a driven svt" when in fact the majority of bassist didn't know what that actually sounded like.


The sansamp stuff sounds good I think the vtbass is the closest if you want "svt" even more so then the sansamp boxes.


There's a few threads where the freq. of the sansamps are on graph and they all have a big scoop around 800hz (mids on the RBI are set at 1k? I think) so even with th boosted mids on the RBI it's still scooped at 800

Best way IMO to go about using a sansamp is thinking about wanting that "sansamp" tone which in itself definitely has its place.

One thing I noticed is in a dense band mix..lts very easy to get lost when using a sansamp where as using a real svt cl you'd be very much more upfront.

Worth every penny because of the angelic high end, brutal midrange punch and ungodly lows they produce - Absolutely.

My PJB rig is the best sounding rig I've ever played. When I went on my quest for the ultimate bass rig, I auditioned rigs from PJB, Aguilar, SWR, EBS, Fender, Gallien-Kruger, Mesa, Ampeg, Eden, Warwick and Peavey, and (to me) the PJB gear was by far the best sounding of them all.

You haven't really heard how good a Spector bass can sound until you've heard it through a Phil Jones amp.

Do I hate the absolutely ridiculous weight of the head & cabs?
You bet I do.

Do I wish it was 1/2 the size that it is but still had the same sonic impact?
For sure.

Would I trade it for any other rig on the planet?
Not on your life!

...where abouts do you live in IL?? I used to live in Springfield for 3-4 yrs and Peoria for 15 yrs or so.

Nice! I have the RBI but I need to read up on the differences between the RBI and RPM. I believe Geddy Lee is using 2 RPM's in his rig now so I am curious but in my RBI manual, they tell you how to daisy chain both of them together so I can imagine how great that sounds.

I live in central Illinois just west of Chillicothe. I was born and raised in Peoria. Spent twenty years away from Peoria and only moved back due to career needs. After traveling the world in the military then living in rural locations I find many but not all Peoria people hilarious with their foolish pride and arrogance. But Caterpillar has that effect on people, that's why it's the Big Yellow around here.

I think you will be very satisfied but I can't wait to hear your thoughts. When I switched from the HZ's to the DC's in my Rebop, i was very happy with the difference in tone so I have the DC's in 3 out of 4 of my basses now.
