Man, they both sound just amazing! Weren't there people saying they didn't like the sound of buckeye or it wouldn't be able to give a good tone? I think that should silence anyone right there that has any doubts.

You would think that people take the time and do a bit of research but Guitar Center is the perfect example. They still have one of their Spector's listed as a B.O.B. bass where it clearly is something else and I remember someone getting an amazing deal on an NS-2 about a year ago that made all of us just jealous
Pawn shops I would be a bit more lenient with but since they sold it for $300, imagine how much they offered the person selling it?

This is how I play 90% of the time when I need some grit. I turn the grit loop off (which consists only of the M-80) when I want a clean tone.
My SVT 4-Pro has the exact settings as the Bass Mid and Treb on the M-80.
And this is how I loop things:

I see it, it would need to get very hot to cause that polyurethane to distort, I have seen that before but it was from piling during the spraying process but I doubt this got out of the shop like that?
The highest temperature I have ever seen in a vehicle was 145 degrees which I don't think would do it and it doesn't look like it was left in the sun (it looks brand new).
The poly Spector uses has a lot of hardener in it which makes it brittle and prone to chipping and cracks so I don't think it's from expansion and contraction of the wood?
If their finishers would use an elasticizer we would see less of these anomalies.
Do you think that it is glue weep or drying of the fretboard being more pronounced in between the frets?
As far as I know all the wood rejuvenators I have used contain solvents as a dispersion vehicle and could be it is just dried out.
It's a very nice looking guitar is spite of these issues.

I bought a "like new" BTB 1305e from GC last year for 495, I should say stole a BTB.

Between the Euro or a CRFM, I agree with Smadder that the CRFM is the way to go. My CRFM is a cut above my Euro LX in both construction and tone, and IMHO, a CRFM equipped with the USA 9-volt circuit will give you 95% of the tone of a USA NS series. For those on a budget or just looking for an incredible value, this is the way to go.
That said, I recommend saving for a USA NS-2 or NS-4. I have been very happy with my Euro LX for the past six years, but in the back of my mind I'd always wondered whether or not I was missing anything by not owning a USA Spector.
The answer was yes.
When I finally got my USA NS-4, I had an ephiphany - this was the exact, no-compromise sound I had been chasing for the past 30 years.
(As a side note, I would recommend to anyone in the market for a USA Spector that they consider both the NS-2 and the NS-4. The NS-2 may be Spector's flagship, but the NS-4 is every bit as versatile, powerful and awesome.)
I no longer wonder if my tone could be any better - it is exactly as I want it now.
Put an end to the wondering & wanting, and buy the last bass you'll ever need - Buy a USA Spector!
Yeah what's cool about the Buckeye is that the walnut seems to impart some warmth to the tone. Whereas my Forte (all maple) get really bright and raspy the NS 2 gets bright but stays a touch warmer at the same time. I really like the tone.
Ive been sitting here all morning comparing my Mesa mpulse600 to the Genz Shuttlemax 12.0, I want to love the Genz but no matter what bass I put through them the Mesa just sounds better more full if you know what i mean. I really want to go light weight, but I dont think its worth it if I feel as though im sacrificing the depth of my sound. Don't get me wrong the Genz is a solid head, but it might be wiser to keep the Mesa. I cant afford to keep both.
You bet I will! My tech took it home with him so he could clean it up and do any necessary treatments. Playing with it at practice tonight!
Fun part is gonna be setting it up from scratch
I feel ya on this. Id love to get a smaller head but I LOVE the sound of my Mesa. Have you tried a walkabout? They have that "Mesa" tone but in a way lighter package. I dig that head too!
If it does not sound the way you need it to you will never like it, it may be OK but that's it and you may never use it?
That's how I am, it's got to feel and sound good or I won't use it.
