Yup, I saw the light, dumped all the Ibbys and picked a Euro 5Lx up. Amazing bass. You'll love yours when you get it!
 
I think this is the biggest thing going against the TP. I like to know where the preamp's "flat" tone is, but ultimately what I did was find the tone I like, carefully pull off the knobs and put them back on with the dots facing the ground when I'm playing. That way I at least can turn them to that position and know I'm really close to where I usually set it.

The visual actual helps, since I spent 30 minutes at my last rehearsal playing the Webster at what I thought was center for the bass control, but it was all the way down. :hmm: I thought it was because I was just using my 210 that day LOL. Felt like a dope for sure.

They are boost only, that is why there is no detent so flat would be off, the TP has a lot of boost also something like +18db if I remember correctly?

There can still be a detent even if it is boost only (and it may not be)....say at 5 db boost for example. This at least would give gigging players a frame of reference on dark stages, etc.

I do like Bunk's (I think it was Bunk) idea of taking the knobs off and reorientating them but if you boost more or less depending on the song this could be an issue.

Tone Pump circuit
This is our famous TonePump active tone controls!
We use these in our Europe Series basses (EuroLX, ReBopDLX).
They can be used with active or passive pickups.
Special boost-only gain structure, this has plenty of gain and headroom!
+19db of gain when turned all the way up.

There is an Output Trim Pot on the unit to adjust overall bass output as needed.
Includes the TonePump with boost-only tone pots already wired to it, and wiring diagram.

I might add that there are two different "adjustable" tone pumps, I have mentioned this before, however neither have a detent but have different wiring designs and may also have two different boost or boost/cut controls though I could not detect it.

"TonePump™ Technical Information
This 9-volt active tone circuit was engineered specifically for us using specifications developed by Stuart Spector and PJ Rubal. It was designed using current microprocessor technology and is a "modern" approximation of the solid-state tone circuit that is used in our USA Series™ NS-2™. Stuart and PJ went through extensive testing and refinement of the TonePump™ circuit until it sounded the way they felt it should to best represent "The SPECTOR® Sound™".

The TonePump™ has some advantages over other circuits, one being that it doesn't use operational amplifiers. It uses special wiring with a JFET transistor, which behaves similar to valves. Operational amplifiers when overloaded - which is at beginning of nearly every tone, become saturated. When this occurs there is a short recovery time (approx. several milliseconds). During this short time the whole circuit is non-functional. The result is signal loss at the beginning of the tone (attack).

When the TonePump™ is overloaded it softly distorts the second harmonic, which is an octave note, resulting in no distortion or lose of the original note allowing the first signal after peak to be played immediately with no delay.

The result is that the instrument articulates the note clearer because there is no loss of signal at the beginning of each tone. This helps the mix in low volumes and allows for clear tone in every EQ setting; an ideal situation for both in-studio and live situations.
