I will be honest... I don't hear any "ping".. but I find that it doesn't translate to recording that well. I always just pick the one I like the best and assume its the NS-2 :bassist:

Here's my little family of Spectors. A ReBop5DLX-EX, a Legend 4 Classic, and a SpectorCore Piezo 5 Fretless. Each definitely has its own character, but they all have something uniquely, wonderfully Spector about them.
May I join the club? :hiding:

Well, I had experience with the OBP-3 so I can recommend it...not so with the BQC. :p

If you think that's what you want, and if your bass is still in the build stage, call your dealer that you ordered thru and see if its possible to get it installed now. That way you won't have to wait for the back orders. I've changed my order after the initial and it wasn't too late. The electronics & strings are last to be installed. Just a thought.

As you can tell, I'm a huge fan of the OBP 3 also. It's so versatile! Wish I could've gotten it in my Coda 5 DLX that's coming. :( I may figure out a way to install it later on. :D If there's a will theres a way! :bassist:

Figures. Exactly where I am at and I am broke. Did those come standard with the 9V USA circuit?

Edit: Disregard. I just checked the Spector site and the 9V USA circuit was standard and the bass could also be ordered with the 18V circuit as well.

I Looooove it. I put the action down low and have the greatest mwah. The piezo is, of course, pretty bright, and it picks up a lot of string noise against the fretboard, and when I want a bright articulate tone with character (think Tony Levin's sound on Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer) it's very capable and sculptable.

One thing I'm about to experiment with, though - when I don't want that clicky sound against the fretboard, but rather more of a mellow woody tone, I like to use tapewound strings, but they don't work with the piezo saddles (need conductive strings to ground saddles) (and the tone, punch and volume is a little lacking when just using the neck p-up with tapewounds), so I might try tacking down the tape windings with a bit o' superglue just above the saddle, then stripping the tape where the strings hit the saddles, in order to ground them. (I just hate to ruin a perfectly good set of strings.)

Beware - once you play one, there's no turning back.
For me, discovering Spector basses was like finally discovering my voice - it was and is the sound I'd been searching for ever since I first started playing.
The good news is, there are Spectors in a wide range of options & prices, and they all play & sound great. The bad news is that like me, you may end up with a closet full of your old non-Spector basses that just sit there collecting dust...
