Interesting, I've had 2 ns2a's, one with HAZ and one with the TP. I've concluded the TP is roughly 85% of what the HAZ is. I don't like not having the center dent on the TP either.
The HAZ seem to be more compressed, and has a bit of distortion when pushed. It's probably a result of the components being underpowered. Which has a musical effect. The TP is cleaner sounding but I like it too. For only $100 I think the TP is a great deal.

However, I've been waiting for 2 or 3 months for a HAZ to put in my 3rd NS2a. I hope they didn't stop making them. I email spector every 2 weeks asking what the status is on the HAZ is. They've stopped responding to my enquiries.:hmm:

If I have to get my money back, I will get a TP and spend the rest on half of my 4th NS2a. Maybe a white one.

I do not like the Tone Pump. I played my Kramer and the Wimbish, the TP has nothing on the 9v for my uses when turned up the TP was noisy, Kramer quiet as a mouse. The treble and the bass of the TP have no center cut/boost, don't like that. The TP lacked the bottom that the 9v has also. I might be getting another TP equipped bass some time in the future and will compare that also. :hiding:

Note: the Kramer is equipped with a current 9v haz.

I think this is the biggest thing going against the TP. I like to know where the preamp's "flat" tone is, but ultimately what I did was find the tone I like, carefully pull off the knobs and put them back on with the dots facing the ground when I'm playing. That way I at least can turn them to that position and know I'm really close to where I usually set it.

The visual actual helps, since I spent 30 minutes at my last rehearsal playing the Webster at what I thought was center for the bass control, but it was all the way down. :hmm: I thought it was because I was just using my 210 that day LOL. Felt like a dope for sure.

One clip is the Woodstock Matte Forte-4 the other is the Woodstock Gloss NS-2. Both have 9v USA circuits in them.
Same Dunlop Steel strings, all bass and recording settings equal.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion.... Where did you have the trim set at? I've never heard anyone say the TP was lacking in bottom end....

This^^ the TP is the most misunderstood pre out there IMO.... it is a lot to handle if you don't take the time towine and dine it lol

Although the center detent thing is I think where most people really don't like it.

I'll have to hear the OBP-3 in a Spector some day. I had a Quantum 5 briefly with Bartolinis and the OBP-3 and it was maddeningly clean for my tastes. I expect it sounds signficantly different in a Spector though.

The band is called Divinity Compromised. Have a fairly small Facebook footprint at the moment - page hasn't been updated in a while. Basically been in a dormant state for the last year so getting the record ready. Our singer has pretty decent contacts so I expect us to have some national openers early next year when we start promoting the record.

I'm dying to post clips and artwork but we haven't paid for the artwork or done all the legal stuff with the music yet so I better not. :) Hoping to have the digital release out next month. We'll probably hold back the physical release until after New Year's.

First, congratulations on your endorsement!

On the OBP-3 in a Spector, it is still pretty clean. Which honestly is an Aguilar trademark.

I was SUPER impressed with how similar the OBP-2 @ 18v sounds like the USA 18v circuit.

What I do like about the OBP-3 is that it uses both OpAmp and JFET circuits to accomplish what it does. So there's an amazing range of frequency representation which is why it is so clear and articulate. A really smart design.

But I'm feeling a bunch of Aguilar love right now. This little Tone Hammer 350 rig I have sounds better than the 600w GB rig I've got sitting next to it. It's really crazy!

The guys at Aguilar are doing things right in my opinion.

I still prefer the circuits that Stuart designed himself. I mean the USA 9v and the USA 18v, even the TonePump which was a PJ and Czech design, are to me the best circuits to generate that classic Spector tone.

Thanks man. I plan to work on raising the band's online profile as the release gets near. I just got admin access to the FB page so I hope to keep it more active as things progress.
