I googled Peavey Max and the amp wasn't like what's out there now. It looked like this...
It was a bass preamp w/8 band eq paired with the age old CS800 power amp. All built into a road case. This thing is still in my shed, dead as a doornail.
That's only the second one of those I've ever seen. I played through one once years ago and loved the sound. I don't know if I'd still like it today and if it's as heavy as the old CS800's, I'd be running in the other direction...

Yes, it did sound great when I biamped with an 1820 cab. But yeah, it's a freakin' boat anchor and would never use it now.

Congratulations on your first Spector and welcome!Hi all - First post!
I'm a freelance trumpeter who decided to take up bass, and decided to go with the Spector Legend 5 as my first axe.
Being a bit of a tone freak, I am definitely intending to swap out the stock Spector pickups and replace them. I'm looking for something that can provide me with a nice range of tonal colours, and still cut through when needed.
What do you guys think? Should I try and go for the similar soapbars that go in this models bigger and more expensive brothers, or go with something totally different?

I have two 1820 cabinets and would line out of the amp into the second amp keeping them both full range into the crossovers but would EQ them different for a big sound, I now just keep one cabinet loaded into the trailer for shows and one at home for practice....everything runs into the PA and I don't need to have a big system behind me anyways!

That would be worth fixing, I use a local guy for repairs that did Tom Petty's stuff and could get you his number if your interested...he even said that the Peavey stuff is built strong and always worth fixing but there is also so much new stuff out there worth trying.....

It's infrequent that I have money burning a hole in my pocket. The boys have been pestering me for a drum kit, and I just might cave finally this weekend.
So... How many of you are still using the age old speaker setup of a 4-10 cab on top of a single 15 cab? Just curious.
I play through a 2 x 12" and a 1 x 15". I like the sound they make together, though I'd probably get another 2 x 12" if I ever need a monster rig again.
i'm running a gk700rb into gk neo 410+115 cabs and using the gks biamp setup with the separate 75w amp running the tweeters, I love how this setup puts the controle for the tweeters right on the amp with the other tone controles instead of on the back of the cabs, this setup also runs a full range signal to all the paper conesSo... while this is my preferd setup for most cleen and slap sounds I've found that for a good grity fingerpicking sound that will cut through two metal guitars I prefer the neo 410 with my swr 12 pack 2x12 cab with my hartke 3500 I find the hartke to be a little better at the dirty sounds probably because of the tube preamp.
I have yet to try the 212 and the 115 togeather but now that I think about it ...why not today..???
iv'e also tried the 700rb with 2x 410 cabs and an ampeg 810 and 2x 115 cabs and all came up lacking to me as compaired to the fuller broader range sound I get from a mixt cab setup, I realy don't here the muddy out of phase sound that is insisted apon and I think over exaggerated by a lot of members on this forum.
oops sorry this question doesn't realy aply to me .., I run my 115 on top with the 410 on the bottom cuz even for a neo that freakin things heavy!!
i'm basing this guess on 20+yrs of spraying and sanding experience and having produced finishes just like this many times. my matte euro has the exact same look and feel of a finish that has just been very finely wetsanded in preparation to either be buffed to a high gloss or have a final finish coat of clear aplyed.
could be a real mistake saver at the factory if you have a gloss paint job go bad with a run or flaw in the finish you just sand it out and it becomes a matte finish.
one pretty cool fact I've discovered about my matte spectors is they wear backwards as in the wear or contact spots get shiny while the rest of the bass stays dull so when the spots realy start to show you can just buff the whole thing
