A couple of times I had a Spector Bolt-on along with a Spector neck-thru...They both have their own distinctive voices. The bolt-ons tend to be more aggressive, growly and bark. Where the neck-thru's tend to be smoother, aggressive and growly. You can get that Spector grind out of most of the basses...depends a lot on what preamp you run, how you're dialing your pre and equalizer as well. Currently I'm playing/own my Coda 5XL Deluxe exclusively. Traded off my NS-2000/5 neck-thru to Donny for a Carvin B1500 amp...wasn't playing the NS-2000/5...the Coda is all I need right now.:smug:

Not to bad I played at Carthage and the director puts together a very structured set, we played: Hold on-Alabama Shakes, Blessed be Your name-Matt Redman, Cornerstone-Hill song live version, I surrender-Matt Crocker, One thing remains-Jesus Culture. Here is a picture of the stage before we started and you might be able to see Iris to the right of the drums! lol

'87 was still the kramer era of Spector so technically that would still be accurate. I'll have to go through the video and look, now I'm curious.

Yes.

The 10-string is a bolt-on model.

A couple of those were made last fall...

OK... First impressions. Finally got the house to myself and so I put new strings on my Euro5LX and rolled the rig into the living room. Set the controls to a somewhat neutral setting and fired it up.

Very nice!

I proceeded to muck about with all kinds of minor and extreme changes in the settings. All the while the tone controls on the Euro were flat with full volume. (I always leave the volume full up.) The Euro has an OBP-3 pre @ 18v. Where I ended up setting the amp to was with the -10db input pad engaged and the gain at 10:00. Drive at 12:00, Bass-Mid-Treble all at 1:00 and the Mid Freq at 12:30.

I also broke out the 4 string Spector (NS-4CR) and tried that out leaving the amp set up as is. This bass has an EMG BT pre @ 18v with bass full up and treble 1/2 up. (these are the settings I've been using so when I switch from the Euro I don't have to change the amp settings.) Interestingly this yielded a more hi fi tone. And actually this was good because I mostly play this bass with a pick so I can get that sound. (Think Golden Earring/Twilight Zone which I use it on.)

On the DB212... It's a little heavier than I'm used to for a single cab. My two other cabs are a TCE RS212 (52lbs) and 210 (46lbs). It's about 18 pounds heavier than the RS212, but so far sounds like it alone will sound better than the RS212 and RS210 together. So all in all, less total weight and fewer cabs to move.

Of course, this is just me by myself and we all know the trick is to "cut through the mix" so now I have to take it to rehearsal and play it with the band. (Three piece playing Classic Rock and Alternative Rock covers). I'll put it up on a Quick Lok WS-650 stand so it's up where I can really hear it. The gain/drive will have to change straight away because the output of my pedalboard is less than the bass alone so I'll have to mess with that again to see what works. (I'm sure the pad will come off)

Well that's it for now. Can't wait until this (next) weekend when we rehearse again. I also can't wait to hear this with my USA builds. :bassist:

In 1986 Stuart built an 8-string NS-2 with dual J pups for Billy Sherwood (at the time he was with Yes).

He still has the templates... I saw them when I was in Woodstock and I took a photo of them...

I've played that bass at Billy's house/home studio at it's amazing.

I do not expect that this model will go "into production".

But because the templates still exist it may be something that you can order, talk to PJ Rubal about it.

That is totally awesome, I would love to ditch my Schecter for a Spector 8-string, but I'm a Korea/Euro budget guy, I'd never be able to afford a bass that costs more than my truck!

If I had to take a guess, the reason it changed hands a few times was most likely to a chunky neck. That happens sometimes with the USA basses where the necks are a bit more on the chunky side (which I love by the way) and people aren't always the biggest fans of them.

Looking at the user you mentioned that was selling it, the price definitely seems fair and it looks like a great bass as well. I know the NS-4 I have has really thick neck on it and it changed hands a few times as well but I love the feel of the thing in my hands.

Oh that makes sense...I love the bigger neck but it's weird that Spector NS 4H2'S don't hold their value for some reason but a Sadowsky Metro won't lose much which is bullcrap. I don't care that it's a Sadowsky cause it's a MIJ built one, just not the same to me.
