SPECTOR® Club - Part 64

Here's some photos from my Tue. night gig but not as a bass player, but my first ever gig as an acoustic guitar player. :bassist::) We gigged at an Indian River Dairy Mart. Had a good size crowd gather to listen as they dined on ice cream. Customers asked when we would be back next time they'd come earlier to listen to us. Had some customers participate with us...a couple kids got on the congas for a short bit. A fun time by all! Next time, Spector time! Sorry for the derail...back to our Normal Spector broadcast :D
(The Lady with Red Hair is my wife :) )

Thank you! Yeah when I saw it on ebay I just got a feeling that this was a bass that needed to be restored back to how it was. I love old basses, I love Spectors, so buying this just seemed to make sense.

I will hopefully one day get to swap out the MM114 for a real deal US 9V once they become available.

I'm going to try and take some "glamour" shots of it a little later today to show it off some more.

Oh and just for some bragging rights, I'm only in this whole project for around $1300, so I think I did pretty well for myself.

That's so awesome all around. I believe the more wood ages on a guitar the better it sounds...more special mojo. :bassist: :cool:

I can honestly say I was going to ditch the Tone pump. I was originally going o bid for the eBay NS-2A preamp, then found a fellow club member was bidding for his stage bass. Then I thought about the EMG BT circuit. Then I was driving home and passed a Radio Shack. Ran in and bought a 5 pack of 9 volt connectors and wired it up to 18volt. I couldn't believe the sound or why it doesn't come standard like that with 18v. My only concern now is I have a EMG35P4 and EMG35TW that I want to eventually put in. Will the tone pump still live up to its current standard. Obviously the new EMGs will sound completely different, but I am going to hold on to the Tone Pump a little longer, I got some new love for that pre amp.

yeah the pump wont change, and the new emg's will get the increased fidelity with 18v. the pump at 18v with the bass n treb boosted about 90% is pretty much equal to what the US9V does at full boar, and sounds almost identicle. The sweet spot with the pump isn't with the pup blend centered like the US 9v. The cool thing is the pump has more bass and treb available than the US9v, but imo. its only useable when you turn the tone pump down to about 30-40% on the blend pot. If you lower your pups just a hair ( about a turn or 2) and favor the p just a bit you'll find what everyone loves about the US9v. It's all there, it's just a more sensitive setup being newer tech. There's a reason Rex and a few others use it in their US builds. :bassist: :ninja: :eek:

the tone does change actually as long as they are played. the vibrations effect the grain structure of the wood over time. they use a shaker table to speed up the process, but there is a company out that sells a device you plug into an instrument and it feeds frequencies back into the instrument which is supposed to do the same thing. not sure how that works out with emg's and preamps though. I had a hand in the testing fender, gibson, and guild did on this years ago. I believe they became the relic line. Michael tobias and a few others have done the same thing as well.

Exactly...I've been wanting to play acoustic guitar since the age of 7! Love the blend of tones...I play Classical style, I find it much easier and I prefer the sound of each string. :bassist:

I was wondering how often we should treat our different neck boards, I know it will depend on use, humidity, etc. but on an average what would you think is best Patrick and/or Todd?

Ebony
Pau Ferro (This board will dry out also and Todd treated mine when he changed the strings)
Maple (Mine is coated but should it be treated with something or just cleaned?)

I treat mine every time I change strings.
