Really?That's the issue?The neck is too fat?So if the neck was smaller,people would keep their Forte's?

I hear people say Spector necks are fat all the time...especially with the ReBop and USAs. I have to say that the fattest neck out of any bass I've owned is on my Classic 50's P-bass. My ReBop's neck is slimmer, my NS-2000/5's neck was slimmer and the few Euro's I've played were fatter than my ReBop. Hell, the G&L & Gibson basses I pick up at my local shops have almost unplayably fat necks. :S

I don't get how the Spector necks are considered fatter.

To me rebop neck is slightly wider feeling than Euro but my playing issue is i have 100s on Euro and 105s on Bop so that adds to my issue. lighter strings for me. i like the less tension myself

I have a Rebop 5 and I think the neck is really comfortable on that.

The Kramer neck profile is a no cost option for any USA NT build.

the neck on my Forte 4's neck was amazing! it was kind of a flat C shape...if that makes sense. I was just a dumb@ss and sold it to buy a Modulus, which was also a great bass, but eventually sold it to fund my fretless!

...I hope to get a new/used/my old Forte in the future!

I thought the "Webster" option was just for Euros. I asked Todd about the Kramer vs Webster necks and he replied with this...

I spoke with PJ today about your neck question. He said the neck you ordered is the thinnest they make. There is no Alex Webster USA neck specs as Alex's bass was built in the Chezch factory.

That's interesting! When I ordered my fretless, I asked for a thinner neck profile similar to the Webster model. PJ told me it wouldn't be the same as the Webster profile because of the difference between NT and BO, but it would be nice and thin. ...so it might not be the exact same, but I think it's pretty close. Either way it's MUCH more comfy than the other US 5'er that I've played. :bassist:

I call it the 'Webster-esque' profile! :D

The fact that it's a BO vs a NT might also play a small roll in this discussion, since it's easier to replace a neck on a BO vs a NT. :D

I ordered my 6XL with a "thinner" neck profile as well based on the Webster. It was bound to feel a little different since it's 6 vs. 5 on the Webster, but I think it's pretty close in thickness. Definitely easier to play than my Euro 6LX-EX was.

Yeah my Euro 5LX had a super beefy neck, but my fretless is just perfect! :bassist:

I'm curious to see how close the neck on the new build will be to the fretless! :bassist:

I can only comment on 4 string necks but, here is some info that should help and make sense regarding the necks on the USA models.

During my visit to the shop. I saw the size of the Carbon Fiber Rods they use and they are square and rather large, thus anyone that owns a Woodstock model knows the necks do not move much.

The Forte I owned had that exact "flat C shape" as Brad referred to. My NS-2 #800 was Spec'd as a Kramer Style neck. It is thinner then my Forte was but it still has a bit of flat C shape.
My NS-2 #630 ('08 Model) has a C shape but it is rather chunky.

When I was at the shop I touched the necks on a few NS-2s that were ready for final setup and the necks felt more C shape then my #800. (Still thinner just more rounder)

One NS-2 in particular was made for a Artist that played Kramer NS-2s back in the 80s.

That neck felt very close to a Euro4LX neck.

Each neck is hand made so it will vary but overall they are leaning towards making them thinner and rounder now.

When you get a USA neck, I doubt it will ever be described as really thin. But they are solid, stable and comfortable.

I know I am in the minority here but the fatter the neck, the more I like it. To be honest, I don't really understand the complaining about the USA necks and it almost seems like people don't give them a chance. The neck on my NS-5 XL is massive but it is also the most comfortable neck I have ever played and just feels great in my hands. Same with my NS-4 which I am possibly thinking about selling but I just know people will not like that neck.

I have owned a bunch of different Spector's over the years and sure you feel some differences in necks but none were ever so drastic that I had an issue playing them. The only necks I am not a fan of are ones with a 1.5" nut since they just feel way too small for me but it's an obvious personal preference.

One thing I will mention though is I devote a good amount of time every day in my practice schedule to work on strengthening my left hand as well as my reach so maybe that helps me deal with a larger neck. It really has helped my technique and I don't have issues switching between a 34" scale bass to a 35" scale bass. I guess I just like big necks....and I cannot lie ;)
