I'm normally partial to & own Ibanez basses, but I am very interested in Spectors after seeing a Rebop on YouTube. Can any Spector peeps out there give me a crash course on the models (entry-level, intermediate, high-end) & some noteworthy specs? Do all Spectors come stocked with emg pups & preamps? I'm looking for a mid-priced model with emg's. How different is the neck vs. Ibanez? Thanks.

I have to give a HUGE thanks to Todd and PJ on this build, both have been exceptional to talk with and have made this bass happen for me!
I can't express how refreshing it is to talk with people who are not only passionate and knowledgeable, but are willing to go above and beyond to provide the customer their dream bass!
That Buckeye is going to be eye popping when finished! Will it be actually BO or Set Neck? That sounds like a dream bass...everything I'd love in a bass of that build.

The body contour is a big noteworthy spec on most models.
I owned a soundgear and I think that ibanez necks are way thinner. Spector necks have a lot more beef on it.
For the most part they all have emg.. With the exception of some jazz models with Aguilar jazz pups.
There's basically 3 lines
Korean(performer)
Euro/Czech (euro and rebop)
USA
A good start would be to try the performer models.. However you could get a USED rebop for about the same price of a NEW Performer.

Lots of different choices, you can find the specs for all of the current models here: http://www.spectorbass.com/
The Performer series are the beginner instruments, followed by the Professional series, the European series, and finally the USA series; the ReBop is the bolt on Euro model.
Most professional players use either the USA or Euro series basses, but some use the Pro series as well.
All Spectors (aside from the USA Codas) come stock with EMG's, but the model varies depending on the bass, and also depending on the bass have a variety of preamps including EMG and Aguilar as well as Spector brand circuits like the Tonepump and the USA 9v/Haz.

Thanks a lot Ice! I modified the Legend 4 Classic with an EMG 35TW in neck and an EMG 35DC in bridge. Also added a BQC Control. Didn't add the BQC System because I would've lost the single coil/humbucker switch in the TW. It's also strung with extra heavy DR DDT strings tuned BEAD. It runs at 18v. Did it all by myself. I sent a pic to PJ and he gave me props. I am planning to retune this one to C and eventually just get a 35" Euro 4 strung BEAD.

I'm late to the neck party. Here are my thoughts...
The only thin neck I've ever experienced on a Spector was some of the legends. My Euro's had pretty thick necks. The NS2J-AR was pretty thin though. The USA CODA 5 that I owned had a very chunky neck that at first sight I knew I was going to hate. I ended up loving that neck though and I regret moving that bass.

When I first started looking back, my first thought was I was on Talkbass 1.5 years meanwhile its been 2.5 years.
15 previous Spectors and I miss everyone of them.

I had to add a couple washers to my ReBop's truss rod. Was a rather simple fix.

I hear ya....I was vexed with that stripped nut on my NS2A that I have in the classified, but after replacing the nut and playing it a bit today, its killing me....it just growls so nicely, really like no other Spector Ive ever had...I think Im gonna take it off the market. Even though it just has the EMGs with no preamp, theres just something about it...anyone else ever have an NS2A with just the EMGs in it?

Glad you are loving your new Spector. I think you got one of the best looking NS-4H2's we've ever had. I loved the way the neck was finished.

I know I am in the minority here but the fatter the neck, the more I like it. To be honest, I don't really understand the complaining about the USA necks and it almost seems like people don't give them a chance. The neck on my NS-5 XL is massive but it is also the most comfortable neck I have ever played and just feels great in my hands. Same with my NS-4 which I am possibly thinking about selling but I just know people will not like that neck.
I have owned a bunch of different Spector's over the years and sure you feel some differences in necks but none were ever so drastic that I had an issue playing them. The only necks I am not a fan of are ones with a 1.5" nut since they just feel way too small for me but it's an obvious personal preference.
One thing I will mention though is I devote a good amount of time every day in my practice schedule to work on strengthening my left hand as well as my reach so maybe that helps me deal with a larger neck. It really has helped my technique and I don't have issues switching between a 34" scale bass to a 35" scale bass. I guess I just like big necks....and I cannot lie
I'm actually with you. I like the feel.. Your green bass is way comfortable. One of the reasons I like Spectors is they FEEL good to me.
Also.... In general what I got from some guys who played my ns6xl is that the neck isn't as thick as some of their ns5xl basses?
I really need to he around to making measurements.. I honestly keep forgetting

Thundar has the coolest collection of add spectors I've seen bunch of ns2cs
Mad has the worst case of SAS of any of us, yet doesn't own a Spector, lol
I tell you the necks on the Kramer era is absolutely perfect "for me" thats why i sold my Euro and kept the Kramer, it doesnt have the carbon fiber rods but i have had zero issues and have done zero adjustments on it, it came to me perfect and i intend on not changing a thing. Speaking of which, Lee if your reading I know you shipped it with Spector nickels, do you remember the guage, want to order another set exactly the same?
