SPECTOR® Club - Part 66

Hey guys,
I just stumbled across a used Bubinga Legend 4 bolt on locally, older model with the PJ HZ setup and 3 band EQ - I did a little looking here on TB on past sales but I wanted some opinions on a fair price for this - looks to be in decent shape, all original parts.
What do you think it's worth - no bag/case, just the bass.
My Coda Pro 4 may have to wait another few weeks, very few Spector basses come up for sale here locally so I may jump on this one if I can get it for the right price.

Well in one day I've gone from a buyer to possibly a seller - just dropped $600 at the dentist for emergency dental work for my kid after a faceplant via skateboard. Kid is ok, she'll be fine but follow up next week with more work looks like another $400-650, so I am putting out a feeler for now - I'd consider selling the Legend 4X Holo, the Squier VM P bass Oly white and/or the Rex 5 Holo.
NS2A is not for sale.
If anyone is interested let me know, I am the original owner of the 4X and the Rex5, both bought direct from Spector, Rex is 3 months old, Legend 4X is maybe 5 months old. Not going to give one away but I am probably going to need some $$ after sending one kid away to school already this summer and now this. I'm in Canada, so keep that in mind if you are interested. I'm not at all wanting to do this, but I'd move one of the Spectors to a clubber if the deal was fair.
Thanks,
Rod

What would you be asking for the Rex5?? :P I'd love to add another Spector to my collection. ^_^

From Minnesota, it's got to be easier to drive through Canada then to come down through Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana to drive all the back up through Michigan. Safe travels brother. Glad to see God has is hands on you working his magic during and after the surgery.
Minnesota??? I live in northern Mi.,"Tip of the Mit" :)

Thank you:) God bless you brother.
Hallo guys! I'm doing a show in front of 3000 people in a few weeks. Now it's a show mainly for kids, an afternoon show (inside, plus it's Norway so no worries about sun) and it'll only be two songs. I was wondering if I should bother bringing my backup? Of course it's always best to be prepared but it's only two songs and I'll give my lovely Euro a good check and test before.

:)
Call me crazy, nuts or whatever...but I only take 1 bass with me to gigs, even the 3 hour gigs. I just make sure the batteries are good to go and everything else is kept up in excellent condition...a Spector Bass WILL NOT let me down...I'm assured of it. Now if I was on the road, that'd be a different story...things can happen i.e. accidents, stolen etc...you'll be fine for 2 songs. :):bassist:
Not to change the subject but these will be in my possession Friday :hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

WooHoo!:hyper: I'll be in town for a few days Sep. 12-15. Lets get together. Besides trying out your new bass rig, I'd like to finger around on your new Spectors...and maybe a reunion with #36. :D I might even be tempted to buy her back if you still haven't sold. :)
Lots going on with my band right now. We have a bunch of shows coming up, Shorts are on order, custom picks coming and were booking studio time ! Cant wait.

I also added a compressor to my rack yesterday. Cant wait to try it out tomorrow night. :hyper:
Its awesome to be busy playing music out when you can. Good luck with the studio! :bassist:

Since there's a lot of cab talk lately, and some Ampeg love in here, anyone know of ANYWHERE that you can buy the cab to this separately?
http://www.ampeg.com/products/classic/microvr/

I've heard great things about this 2x10 cab, being built just like the chambers in the 8x10 fridge, and I'd like to ideally get two of these and run them with an Ampeg V4B tube amp, would be way more portable than the 8x10 or even 4x10, but still get the tone, and with two of these together it would be like a 4x10 without the weight and bulk!

Sadly I've never seen it sold without the weak little mini-amp, so I haven't been able to make this plan a reality

Mike that sounds great but we will be living with my 80 year mother god bless her soul ...lol till our new home is complete shes in great health and I'm sure she would be down for some bass thumping and plucking so shouldn't be an issue . Its about a 1/4 mile from were we live now. So get in touch when the time gets closer . Hey I will make you deal u can't refuse brother .. I got another axe I can't mention on this thread you can try out too. :D

That "weak little mini-amp" is quite strong, actually. lol
I recently played one through a 6x10 SWR cab and it was magnificent!!!
As for the 2x10 mini cab, you can buy them separately anywhere that carries them. They're actually priced individually, but usually sold in pairs.

What would you be asking for the Rex5?? :P I'd love to add another Spector to my collection. ^_^

I'm not sure, like I said, I'm really not wanting to sell, I just may have to move something. The Rex 5 is actually only 2 months old, I looked and it was delivered June 28. If I can't get $800 for the Rex I won't sell it, they are $1200.00 new, and I'm not going to fire sale it, and contribute to the devaluation of the used market for Spector basses.

Also, has anyone ever had hardware re-finished? It's looking like to get my Rex 5 to all gold hardware I'm gonna have to pick up a Legend 5 and swap the black for gold off that bass. I know that I don't need three 5ers right now and that's not going to go over well with the GF (even if it's had for a great price!). I've been thinking of taking the hardware somewhere (bridge and tuners) to get refinished in a gloss gold like the standard dome knobs I have on both of my basses right now.

Thoughts?
I believe I'd look around on TB classifieds, evilBay etc...first. Replating hardware can be VERY costly.
I test drive new amps/speakers and only use effects on the fretless bass...but...keep landing back at my Peavey for it's familiar sound, is this considered old school or am I just not giving the new stuff a fair chance or comparrison?
You just can't change perfection sometimes:smug: That's why I hang onto my old 1968 Ampeg B-15T Portaflex Fliptop. I just dig its tone.
Oh ok cool im just catching up i guess this B1500 is one awesome head for sure it is built like a tank and can bring the thunder for sure.. im using this 810 but am thinking of a 215 and parting ways with the SVT7 pro but all thoughts right now.

Yeah...that's "The Fridge" :D
also thinking about getting a 5er again maybe a rebop or legend custom
 join the 5r club and never look back:bassist::D
I just wanted to take a moment to recognize Iceboxbass and his newly acquired multi quote mastery. Good work Ice!

You know, I read through his last post...and I didn't even catch that!

Congrats, Ice!!
(In my best Elvis voice) "Thank you...thank you very much! :p :D
Now if we can just teach tomydacat...:hiding: :D
i feel like ringo star playing for dream theater HAHAH
Hehehe, that's good.
For the record....Lee and I have a standing joke....he got the TH 500 because I had it first....it wasn't my tone....he knows I like big round clean fundamental with tons of headroom. So he said...if Jamie doesn't like it....I know ill probably love it! Hahaha. Lee likes mids with a lot of grind. The tone hammer does that job well.

To me....I am less worried about size and weight.....I like the mb800 a touch more. I never thought I would ever replace my B1500 or Thunderfunk 550B with it but the Mesa M6 just works well with cast frame woofers...12's or 15's. I haven't played 10's in years.

One thing Lee, Coop and I all do share is a love for the new 15's. They just do it.

I'm done with all the crazy gear selling trading and swapping I used to do. I'm finally content with the equipment I have. It has taken many years and thousands of dollars exchanging hands....lol.

I will say Aguilar onboard pres rock.....their cabinets rock.....I like the older ag500 the most out of all their amps...but they make quality gear. I have also had every tube pre they make and they were good also.

I primarily use my LOE spector for most things.....the warwicks stay in cases....ocassionally the deluxe jazz comes out.....and i play covers now. Although was approached about a soundtrack recently....more one that to come but I canbtell you it will be white spector all the way
AND, you sold me on the B1500 which I love dearly...can't wait to get a big cab and hear its THUNDER:bassist::D
Which dually 15 are you using right now?
Congratulations on being selected for a soundtrack! :hyper: Can you say what the soundtrack is for?
Lol you two crack me up ... I think I will keep all three heads the gk mb8 , m9 and the th500 . Then I have the bases full and then just hit the homerun with the Spector !
Have you ever seen Lees stack of amps? Nobody has a bigger stack than Lee that I've seen. :ninja:
Oh yeah, that's all I ran with the B1500 (The Dually). That cab has greater sensitivity than any 810 on the market. It has flat cured my cab GAS. 60 pound 215 with wheels. Epicness.
Which 215 are you using Lee? In one of my former bands I played thru a Kustom 215 but the Amp really SUCKED (It was the house amp where we practiced) so I really never heard the 215's full potential. :(

Minnesota??? I live in northern Mi.,"Tip of the Mit" :)

Thank you:) God bless you brother.

Sorry about that ICE, for some reason I thought you were in Minnesota. My dyslexia must have kicked in or my contacts need a new prescription. Anyway, now I know. I'm in NorthWest Indiana. Trying to get up to " The Big House" to catch a Wolverines game this year with a couple friends.

Here's one place I saw it being sold separately. $300 bones.

But I'm sure any authorized dealer could order them without any trouble.

Coming from a father that had 2 teenager boys that skateboarded, and still do in their 30's...BURN THAT BOARD NOW! :mad:And don't let her have another one. :ninja:I cannot tell you how many ER trips and Dentist trips I'd made in those YEARS.:scowl: And how much $$$$... With one son, he racked his boys sooo many times on metal handrails, he pissed blood for a while. :ninja: I didn't think he'd EVER be able to get a lady pregnant...They're still swimming lol. He won a big skateboard contest in Chicago back in the day and was approached with a pro contract from Shortie's. He has made a ton of vids. Every boarder that I know is seriously injured(s)...and I've been around a lot of them obviously. Okay, I'll get off the father soapbox now, my 2cents :D I hope your daughter is not hurt too badly. :)

Yeah I've heard those mini stacks and sound great. But the amps have some quirks as some of the guys in the Ampeg club can tell you. Unbelievable low price for those rigs though...maybe buy the whole rig and sell off the amp? I was thinking going that route myself but I'm I love with 212's and 215's now. Good hunting! :)

That'd be really cool jamming for grams :D
I'll drop you a line a few days out.
Go ahead...make me an offer a cant refuse...I have possible plans for #36 too I'm dreaming of...just told the little lady A.K.A. "Fire" and I got the nod. though she says...in her Kathy Bates "Misery" voice, it better be a pretty darn good deal or ELSE;) lol :D Even though I'm a dedicated 5 string player...

Good to know about the cabs, thank you. Ampeg must of fixed the quirks then...

Thanks Ice, she'll be fine, Dad however is probably a little greyer and definitely a lot poorer, I should have been an orthodontist

No problem:) I'm trying get some tickets in the Big House also...one of my neighbors is trying to hook me up with a couple. I've a brother-in-law that's an Alumni of UofM...you think he'd get us tickets? Ha! Like getting blood from a turnip. :ninja: Maybe we'll both luck out and get tickets to the same game. Peace brother :)
Could anyone on here enlighten me on how an emg btc preamp will compare to the tone pump.I have two new rebop mm's and was wondering what the difference in sound would be.
I've had both, but I'll let someone like Limaguy who has compared a few different pres in Spectors and has made recordings of them, get on this subject. All I can say is...the btc is more articulate with a bigger bottom, strong articulate mids, sizzling highs...TP is more growly, more bite in mids, less sizzle in highs, a more bigger/rounder tone overall. Though I prefer the OBP2/3 for the music that I play, especially the OBP3:bassist: Such a diversified pre! :)
