I'm interested in learning more about the GK mb800 and the Aggie tonehammer 500 stuff, give me your thoughts once you get a chance to dig into it.....

I test drive new amps/speakers and only use effects on the fretless bass...but...keep landing back at my Peavey for it's familiar sound, is this considered old school or am I just not giving the new stuff a fair chance or comparrison?

I had the th500 I have a mb800 now and prefer that, however Lee could probably speaker more to the th500 and I think he is using it with greenboy 15 designs, single and dually. He will probably chime in soon.

Yes, this. Also, get some of that graphite nut powder or "nut sauce" to help with any stiction the brass nut may have against the strings.

Dave Borisoff explains near the end of this video the technique:

+1 on the graphite powder. Usually I don't have a problem. But if I do I can grab the string with my thumb & 1st finger (pull outward) and just snap it to get it back if it's a little sharp. But sometimes I use mine a few times in the middle of songs and that's not really an option. I've also heard if you have too many turns of the string in the tuner peg that can contribute to the string returning a little flat, but I've never really confirmed this.

Well both huskey could give you the low down considering I haven't had the mb800 for very long but it is powerfull for such a tiny head and it does emulate the mesa M9 for crisp clear tone . Now the tonehammer 500 is the opposite in tone wise I've been told it is a thick chunk sounding machine , and considering it maybe perfect for the more classic rock tone of yesteryears it is a option I would like to have in my arsenal. Brotherj my mesa m9 with the bronco case has been my go to for a year and that will stay and look pretty in my future home studio waiting for its turn to churn.

Ice and I are the only ones left I think with B1500's. Lee and I used 215 cabs. I have used it with aguilar gs412....aguilar db112x2 bergantino nv215, nv412, htt322 and now new hd212. And an ampeg 810......it rocked everything.....it has more horsepower than anything out there as an all in one head and power lead sled. I had three at one point. Now I'm down to one

Oh ok cool im just catching up i guess this B1500 is one awesome head for sure it is built like a tank and can bring the thunder for sure.. im using this 810 but am thinking of a 215 and parting ways with the SVT7 pro but all thoughts right now.

I used to hit my distortion when I would at worship practice every now and then. Then play some high G string bends.....Every time the piano player/WD would give the guitarist the stinkeye....

After so many years browsing through this site with apprehension towards registering, I finally succumbed last month. I was "almost" GAS free until I joined. Now, watching so many beautiful basses, I have finally decided to do what I always dreamed of for the last 18 years, which is getting a green bass. Not just any bass of course. A Spector Euro 4. My ever so wonderful wife gave me the green light (no pun intended) and I am hoping to add a 3rd Spector to my collection eventually. So thank you guys!

I must say ..CArvin B1500 and Spector NS2A and ampeg 810 moved earth last night ..true thunder..

Love my Carving B1500 connected to my Ampeg B-15T Portaflex Fliptop of course I have to watch the volume so I don't splinter it...as Lee would say.

Good for him. At least he's moved on from ampeg. Too bad he didn't go with GK

I like my pf500/115 setup. Eventually I might add a second cab.

Great combo! I had a PF500 hooked up to a Ampeg B-15T, PR-410HLF, SVT-810e...pushes a lot of air.

I need more than a single 15 or dual 10. They just don't move enough air for the sound I want. The only reason I didn't get a PF cab with my head was because they only offered the 210 and 115 at launch. They added the 410 sometime since then, though.

I currently run my Portaflex 500 through a Hartke 410XL. It sounds amazing.

I want to move my 410xl to get a PF-410, though. That way I can mount the flip-top and make moving my gear that much easier.

So I have a super-technical question for you guys - what do you do to keep yourself from tripping over your cable when gigging?

I ask because even when I am on a long cable, I just don't feel as "free" to move as I do with a wireless. But for the big show in a couple weeks we've been asked not to bring wireless devices unless it's absolutely necessary. So I have a good 20' new cable ready to go.

I typically loop it through my bottom strap button so it can't pull out of the jack, but that doesn't keep you from stepping on it or worse. Just curious to see what everyone's experience has been.

Besides looping it thru my lower strap lock, once in a while I just flip the cord to the side...seems to work for me.

I always run wireless yet when I do have to use a cord I run it up along the side of the speaker cabinet and use one handle to pass it through before connecting into the amp, I also loop it around the strap so if I get tangled up the cord will not pull out of the bass or the amp. Some guys use different patterns on the floor but I never have enough room to wrap the cable so it pulls evenly with movement so I just put it in front of the amp in a loose pattern on the floor.

Same if I'm in a tight space.

At times, I hate knowing what I know.....I'm a mech design engineer for Kawasaki Robotics (yeah, the same Kawasaki as the motorcycles)......blah blah blah

Anyway, my SSD has the "Kramer" truss rod- Which needs to be replaced- but who in the hell didn't see a problem with a steel chisel edge butting up against BRASS with a good amount of pressure applied???

But there are more that are fine than are bad, so who the hell am I anyway?!!??

(still, for the record, thats a horrible idea.... )

BTW......take a look at the attached pic.
4" 5/16 shoulder bolt and drill/tap the end to 10-32. Should do the trick just fine! I hope! LOL!!!

I have a pair of aggie db112's same as you. I used my thunder funk 550b for the longest time, then outta curiosity I put the Mesa m6 on top......wow hold onto your horses! Talk about rock tone! My vote is for the Mesa, the tone hammer doesn't have the same girth......while the th500 might be a great amp, the Mesa m series will beat it out in balls and power.

Of course the Mesa will have a tad more slam....you're comparing class D to a lead sled and iron transformers.

I have the TH500 now and honestly like it better than my Mesa M9, but that's me. The TH has more complex, chewy mids and plenty of thick girth to slam at 4 ohms plus it's 3.8 pounds and fits in the front pocket of my gig bag.

Like Jamie said, I used my Dually 215 with that head. Be very careful with that sub bass knob as it can splinter cabs with the crack of a thumb. With awesome power comes awesome responsibility.

How does the B1500 compare to the M6/9?

B1500 - warm, round with HUGE bottom end. Can get gritty with the drive knob up but mainly a clean sounding machine. Seemingly unlimited headroom. Neutral and fairly uncolored tone.

M6/9 - wide, deep lows with an uber goosed high mid/top end. With the pre-shaped EQ selector it can go from Reggae to dub to rock to slap with the flick of a switch. Any tone you'd ever need IMO. Incredible power even for their 600/900 (4 ohm) ratings.

ID love the M9 just cant afford it HAHA.. the SVT 7 i have is great head too .. just wanted something different and WOW im blown away with the B1500... couldnt beat the price either for that much power..

Anyone know how long it takes Spector sales to respond to emails?
I sent them an inquiry about a Rebop 5 truss rod and nut 3 days ago, and haven't heard anything yet. :S
