Had that Tone Pump yanked out today and an EMG BTS dropped in.
Don't flame me, I like EMG pickups and preamps.
Thing still sounds devastating.

I can't believe they actually had that stock pre running that freakin hot.

So, anyone wanna buy a non trim pot Tone Pump pre?

Flame you? Many of us use EMG EQs.
Personally, I like the BQ more than the BT.

Here's a question that's probably been posed before but I think deserves a revisit. What do you string your Spector with and why? Interested to see what people's string preferences are.

I'm a DR guy. Hi-beam MR45s on every bass I own with the occasional exception for Black Beauties. Have Hi-Beams on my Euro and they help contribute to a nice bright sound for me. I've found them to be the longest lasting string for those like me that need the new string zing as well.

What do you guys play?

DR Hi-Beams all the way!

Hi-beams on my fretted basses and d'addario chromes flats on my fretless. Used to strung my fretted with EB Cobalts before
but stopped using them as they feel too harsh so I suppose they do excessive wear to frets. Blue steels are good also. Hi-beams and Blue steels proved to have longest life IMO.

I've used many. DR are my personal favorite. Usually Sunbeams or Black Beauties. Lately I've been using Spector Formulas though.

I generally stick to DR Sunbeams, they get nicely warm, retaining lots of high mids but losing that crispy clank on the top end so turns the Spector into even more of a mid-machine.

I also use Spector Nickel strings on basses I want to retain some top end with a nice fundamental low and less mid-boost than I get with the DR Sunbeams.

D'Addario XLS 165's becuse they can be gotten cheaply, and because they seem to last me a long time!

I loved the superior sound of DR- I used to use Fat Beams (Cause I'm a Marcus freak), but I broke them......a lot! D'Addarios last me a lont time, and retain their tone!

LaBella Hard Rockin' Steels. I've been using them exclusively for almost 20 years.
My NS-4 showed up last week with Spector Formula 603 steels, and I'm really liking them, too. A lot of the comments I read on here led me to believe they were floppy and loose-tensioned, but I find them to be great. Very similar to the LaBella steels.
I will likely price both brands before my next purchase.

I typically use and prefer DR hi-beams. When I'm broke, which I currently am, I use D'addario.

Speaking of strings, my Alex Webster 5er showed up with Spector nickels on it. Immediately after unpacking it from the box, I removed them and restrung it.
I have those unplayed nickels (5-string set), if anyone is interested in them. I am basically giving them away; even though they're new and unplayed, they're strings, for Krist sake. It's like selling a used Bic lighter.

Congrats on a SaWeet Bass!

On strings we use...GHS Precision Stainless Steel Flatwounds mostly, GHS Black Nylon Tape wounds occasionally for that upright bass tone.
I'm one of the few here that uses GHS Flats...I use them because they sound like they feel, smooth & warm but the growl can be dialed in, they last forever, haven't broke one, easy on the frets & fingers or Fingerboard if fretless. AND they're made right here in Battle Creek, Michigan.

I believe unlike the Hi-Beams, the Sunbeams are nickel only. I believe they are also round-core, which may also be different than the Hi-Beams.
