NS-2A's are great basses but that price is a bit high. I can't tell if it has the original Spector branded pickups or if it was upgraded to EMG's but either way, they are asking too much I think.
You can try and negotiate with GC and they sometimes will work with you so you might be able to get them down. Definitely try the bass though since they really are excellent and even if you don't get that one, they always pop up on here and Ebay.
What's the right price for it? If they will bring the price down, when do I say okay and buy it?

Also - is there any negotiation room available with GC on used items?
If it is a NS2A it will have dot markers on the neck so it's possible the markers on it are stickers, I would open up the back cover to see if it has the correct HAZ (Korean copy) and look to see if it has a serial number stamped on the cover (started production in 1987 with no serial number, most had NS with a 4 digit number starting later in 1987, final ones had a longer number on the back of the headstock starting with S for the Samick factory which are made in 1991). I have noticed that the NS2A basses are going up in price but they can be found for $500 to $550.

and I bet it plays like a dream if it's setup half decent. However, I will let others more qualified to comment on the financial aspect of it.
The red is nice looking but I agree, kind of on the high-side price-wise. If I'm not mistaken, there was a blue NS2C (I think) up there for very short money (like $400). They are fantastic basses for the money.

One nice thing about GC (the only thing?) is the 30 day return policy. If you don't like it, just take it back, and you're only out the money for shipping. Or better yet, have it shipped to a store, and if it sucks, you can return it on the spot (which is what I had to do once). Still, $399 clams is a pretty good deal, I'd say.
I zoomed in on the Guitar Center picture of the NS2A and didn't notice a serial number stamped on the back of the headstock, when I checked the back cover it looks like they have black tape on it in the area for the number....the year probably doesn't matter much if the bass plays great but if your interested I think the numbers went into 8000's, and they also had a change adding the back of headstock valute.

Funny...I was doing the swapping between 4&5 depending on the song but I got to a point where I said enough is enough...the 5r can do it ALL. Plus there's nothing quite like finishing a song with a D or C off the B string. You can see it in peoples faces, they're feeling that "Brown Note" thru the big 218 cab.

Funny...I was doing the swapping between 4&5 depending on the song but I got to a point where I said enough is enough...the 5r can do it ALL. Plus there's nothing quite like finishing a song with a D or C off the B string. You can see it in peoples faces, they're feeling that "Brown Note" thru the big 218 cab.
I know exactly what you mean. I was big on that final low note too. But I'm just having too much fun playing the four string. Thin neck, shorter scale, lighter weight, etc... It's just more enjoyable for me to play than the five string.
I decided that one note in a song on the B string was not a reason (IMHO) to play the fiver. Once I did that, I now have a lot of songs (maybe half the playlist) to play the NS-2 on.
Plus, my fiver has the DCs/USA18v combo, and my four string will have the P/J pups with the USA9v and I want both those tones in my quiver.
After all, I'll bust my hump to entertain the people who come out to see me/us play; but, at this point in my life, I'm there to please myself first.

I should have clarified. It's mislabeled because that's not a USA Spector. You'd be hard-pressed to find a Kramer-era USA Spector for $400. And if you do, buy it immediately.
