Anyone give me any info on this, as I could do with a good source of info about Spector basses etc??? Sorry for just butting in. Cheers

Man, those were fast replies. OK, someone asked if I got a Spector - Yes, I got 2: NS2A and a Performer. I was thinking about getting a Spector Legend 4 Classic off a friend of mine as it may be going cheap but, I hear a lot of talk about them not sounding too good with the tone pump jr system. I cant try it out as he has took the electrics to bits and someone has trod on them whilst he was out and basically they're cream crackered (slang for broke). If it came at the right money, what would be the best electrics to put into it (upgrade from the standard system)??

My NS2A is just sick with the EMG active system in. I would like something along that kind of thing but maybe with a little more emphasis on a more subtle sound rather than the hard hitting sound of my NS2A. My band plays a mixture of psychadelic/rock/funk/stoner and metal.

I would suggest EMG DC pickups and a new/used Tone Pump w/trim. Or if you want a mellower sound maybe an Aguilar OBP-2 preamp instead of the Tone Pump.

Also question just because I'm curious: Seems like all of the Spector basses I've seen with the J/J pickup combination have BadAss II Bridges on them rather than the standard Spector bridge. Curious as to why? Weight reduction? Difference in sound closer to a J-Bass? Other?

The NS2-JAR's and Brooklyn's had the badass bridges. Current NS-2J's come with the Spector bridge unless like Ho's bass the Badass was requested. Ho can chime in on tonal differences, I believe that there is a noticable tonal difference between the two.

Fat 240 is exactly right. Because the JA-R basses were a re-issue of a bass that was manufactured 1983 they come with the original Leo Quan bridge. The JA-Rs sound great. It was one of the main reasons that I wanted a Badass bridge on my new bass. There is a noticeable difference between the Spector bridge and the Badass bridge. One is not better than the other just different. This is an over simplification. With a Badass you get more of the wood in the tone. Less glassy highs and a really strong low mid growl. The Spector bridge yields a brighter more transparent sound. Yet it still growls like a mother.

Emailed PJ about a replacement truss last night just before midnight, he answered me first thing this morning. He directed me to the sales dept after helping me identify my Rebop as a 2003. From what I gather, it has a single action rod which can be difficult to remove even when loosened but I'm not worried about the rod or even replacing it with a dual action, I just want to able to get the relief set just right, which is damn near flat on this thing.

I have the exact same Rebop 5.

The badass is a great bridge, very solid. personally I would prefer the spector bridge on any bass… the badass is rougher on a pick player's hand lol.

Personally I don't mind the TP Jr. If you need a wide variety of tones then swap it out, but I only need one and it works fairly well. I would thing an EMG DC/BQC combo would be a great option for you.

My Rebop handles it fine. I use a set of Drop .150 circle K stings. Brown notes all day

A very nice 2001 Spector Euro-4. The wood is fantastic. A couple of dings and the Spector bullet proof finish.

The neck shaved and the tedious process of finish removal. This stuff puts up a fight! I did the initial finish removal. When it came time to do the horns and contours, I turned it over to a pro. Chris Bavaria. Friend and finisher.

One of the most difficult things. Finding a Spector 9V circuit. Thanks Sam and Bassgiant!

Inspired by this Wenge neck NS-2

Finish line is in sight. The color coat.

Back at home ready to assemble. The solid brass bridge has been powder coated.

During final setup we find some high frets some low frets. A fret dressing would work, but you would have a situation where you would have to remove a lot of material from some frets to compensate for the low ones. Ah well in for a penny... Refret the whole deal! The end result is, essentially, a new bass. The neck has been refreted and PLEKed. The action is very low. Very, very low. No fret buzz. The HAZ circuit is the icing on the proverbial cake. It sounds like an ice cream sundae when you were a kid.

For Christmas I'm getting a lump of coal. I'm ok with that.

Just you wait.... I am upgrading. My Spector Freak has been restricted, no, criminally restrained to run on a mere 800ish watts into a 410 cab.

Well sir... No longer!

This Christmas, she will be enjoying a brand new Art ProChannel ii tube preamp into a brand new Crest ProLite 2.0 pushing 1900 watts into a new fEARless F215. I intend to peel the paint off the walls with the thunderous roar of sweet Spector mojo.

I will upload some pictures then. But just fair warning, if you hear about an earthquake hitting Chicago around 1/1/2014, that's me, and I apologize.

My baby, back where it belongs. It feels so good; I thing the new setup is somehow better than the original (if that's possible). All frets working great now, too.
I found a "bonus" in the case; Jim from Atlanta Bass Gallery threw a sweatshirt in there. It was nice of him to acknowledge the frustration I dealt with.
