I found a "bonus" in the case; Jim from Atlanta Bass Gallery threw a sweatshirt in there. It was nice of him to acknowledge the frustration I dealt with.

do you guys think that a spector 5 string could handle drop A for djent/post hardcore?

My euro 5lx and Rex 5 are both tuned to drop A and sound great!

Has anyone tried to use the EMG-X Pickups in their P/J Spector? I have the opportunity to buy a really cheap but completely stripped NS-2A bass and would have to buy pickups/electronics. How do they compare to the normal EMG PJs?

My Ns2A is at GC in Richmond go tto good of a deal when i was seeing what they would give me as a trade in.. it is a SICK NS2A and it is priced right it will make someone happy..

My pleasure. Dowloaded my digital copy and listened to it last night with my Bose headphones. Really cool stuff and the bass tones are just great. I really dig your use of effects. They were never overdone but some really cool and interesting tones popped up that really added to keeping essentially an instrumental project fresh throughout. Great job!

Now as far as you also playing drums, bass and guitar, well now you are just showing off to us only bass players!!!!

I discovered (since I have a direct line to Stuart and Jimmy Eppard) that these old Kramer-Era truss rods are simply not made anymore and those guys (some 22+ years later) don't remember too much about them.

So I dug and did a bunch of research myself.

There's a few ways you can go to get yours working again. I prefer a double-action rod so the replacement was the best option for me.

It was a very straight-forward procedure once you get the old truss rod disengaged (and of course you have to remove the nut off the neck - not the nut/bolt from the rod - but the brass or graphite nut at the edge of the fingerboard that the strings sit across).

So I dug and did a bunch of research myself.

There's a few ways you can go to get yours working again. I prefer a double-action rod so the replacement was the best option for me.

It was a very straight-forward procedure once you get the old truss rod disengaged (and of course you have to remove the nut off the neck - not the nut/bolt from the rod - but the brass or graphite nut at the edge of the fingerboard that the strings sit across).

The ReBops seem prone to this, too. When mine seized up due to the tension pushing against the nut, it stripped. I'm having to have mine cut off using a diamond bit. Once I get it back, I'm going to try adding a couple washers for spacers and a new truss nut (probably a bullet, as you suggest for the NS-2A). Failing this, I'll do the rod swap. This is, of course, if the rod still has enough play to be used properly.

Patrick, I have a 1987 NS2A which has never had to have the relief adjusted. I use similar string tension but have switched between brands, it does move a little during the change of seasons but sits between .012 and .014 but could be a variation due to my measurement method or feel....I'm actually afraid to try to make it flat because I do play a little aggressive if the song has that sloppy sound, plus it could be frozen solid in just the right place! Have you ever heard of this before????

Man, those were fast replies. OK, someone asked if I got a Spector - Yes, I got 2: NS2A and a Performer. I was thinking about getting a Spector Legend 4 Classic off a friend of mine as it may be going cheap but, I hear a lot of talk about them not sounding too good with the tone pump jr system. I cant try it out as he has took the electrics to bits and someone has trod on them whilst he was out and basically they're cream crackered (slang for broke). If it came at the right money, what would be the best electrics to put into it (upgrade from the standard system)??

My NS2A is just sick with the EMG active system in. I would like something along that kind of thing but maybe with a little more emphasis on a more subtle sound rather than the hard hitting sound of my NS2A. My band plays a mixture of psychadelic/rock/funk/stoner and metal.

I would suggest EMG DC pickups and a new/used Tone Pump w/trim. Or if you want a mellower sound maybe an Aguilar OBP-2 preamp instead of the Tone Pump.

THIS is a great choice^^ I owned a Legend 4, I loved the tone with the TPjr in it. I highly recommend replacing the graphite string nut with a brass nut...makes WORLDS of a difference in tones! Mine changed into a growling tone monster when I swapped out the nut.

Every Spector 5 string I had sounded outstanding in drop A. I use tighter strings also, GHS Precision Flats.

Wow! Gorgeous! I believe this might be the first NS-4 in Bahamas Blue with BEM FB in our club? Congratulations and glad to hear it was made right plus a bonus sweatshirt AND you have it in time for your gig this weekend. Looking forward to your report after running it thru a big rig!

Just sent my American Fender jazz off for trade for a CRFM 4 in the classifieds. I've owned close to 100 basses and never owned a Spector so I'm pretty excited. I think it will finally get me to the tone i've always been wanting!

As far as I know, it's the only NS-4 in Bahama Blue with BEM that Spector USA has made. I am SUPER-excited about the gig Saturday. I have played this one through my Mesa Carbine M6 212 combo, LOUD, and it sounds SOOOOOOO good. I can't wait to add the PH115 cab and turn it up past 9:00.
There should be pics (possibly video)!
Plus, I'll be wearing my Spector shirt proudly.

Funny you say that cause I already had that thought in the back of my head. Though its a CRFM the one i'm getting has a 18v tone pump with the trim pot. I'm afraid of loving it and keep reading more on how great the American made ones are with the Haz lab pre amps, I might need to start thinking of an excuse now to convince my wife I need one when tax money comes
