I wouldn't really consider a Zon a copy of the NS body style. The Sonus body isn't contoured, like the NS. The overall shape may be somewhat similar but they're nothing alike. It's a slab body with more traditional contours, like a fender. Zon hasn't gone the route of that German company we all know.

True, maybe copy was the wrong word. Zon certainly is one of the top bass makers and I don't mean to put them down. I just saw it and since contour isn't a factor in this straight on frontal shot (I've never played a Zon) I thought the body was shaped very closely. Let's say it looks like that bass was "inspired" by the NS. Apologies to any Zon players.

I'm down with you guys. The JA-R is an underrated Spector. The Deep set bolt on neck and the Quan bridge definitely gives a wonderfully present, cutting, biting, tone. Unplugged. The dual active Js provide a very focused, tight, crisp tone. The ultra heavy low end is guaranteed to please. I wholeheartedly agree with Donny. The Tonepump is wicked in this bass. I've been contemplating putting my Forte up for sale in the classifieds, simply because it's not been getting played since the J/J came in the house. The other thing I'm really digging, someone else mentioned this as well, is how the Dual Js sound with effects. They get along really well.

I really liked the dual J sound in the 30th anniversary NS2 that Todd has, they sound great with the 9V Haz.

Dual j pickups make a lot of sense to me. I've been thinking about a Coda pro or a jar since I sold my streamer stage 1 5 string!

Most definitely man...I used my JAR for another heavy gig tonight, this time at the House of Blues...it just has copious amounts of punch and growl, I'm definitely glad I gave it some more playing time before fully committing to parting with it...now I know for sure that if I ever get around to spec'ing a custom build it'll be another J/J setup

Glad it's working out for you MD. I'll be playing one set tonight with the NS-2J SE, in a club nowhere near the size of House of Blues.

That deep set bolt-on neck is why I like the ReBop so much. I even have EMG 40 J pickups in mine, currently paired with a TP but soon to be a BQC. The only major difference is the bridge.

Hard to find a USA NS-2 to actually play before buying, but well worth the effort.
I purchased my NS-2 and NS-4 basses online, never having played either model before, (I had owned several Euros though) and it turned out to be the two best purchases I've ever made.
These two basses define "my sound", and ended my 35-year search for the perfect bass.

I'm about 1.5 hours south of Woodstock, NY but according to PJ, no tours of the factory are possible. I'm 14 miles from NYC where there is a stocking USA dealer. Not that I want to go into mid town Manhattan between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but my GAS may just push me to do so!

By my avatar and my forum name, you all know what basses I favor. I'm told a Spector would be right up my alley and expand my arsenal considerably. I just need to make sure it's right for me but I realize finding something remotely close to what I'm willing to purchase may be a bit of an up hill battle. I need to compare apples to apples and not apples to oranges.

The rebop w jj's would sound really nice Donny. The fivers play very well. John and Mike can attest to that. Coop has my old rebop 5'er. Tomydacat just got the one from GC too

The guy playing the Forte and the NS-2's in the YouTube video is actually Omer (Trailight) not Sam (LimaGuy), but you're right in a sense...they are both great players



The Forte is definitely a 34" scale

This is a family weekend as the all other weekends are for me at least for another couple of months, I have to help my wife with two small sons at home She takes care of both of them on her own five days a week when I work so I can share at least two days of my week to bring up my boys)

I had an original 1983 Brooklyn NS-2JA with 9V HAZ that I bought from Lee and I still regret selling it. Light and played like butter. If I had a chance I'd buy it back...

I just finished having some fun with my basses, last night I set the relief on the Black Cherry NS2 (Scarlet) and now the board is set as flat as the Ultraviolet NS2 (Iris) with both of them at .010".
I also talked myself into setting up the NS2A and I set the relief to match the .010", I also checked the action and made an adjustment to the NS2A on the G string because of a slight buzz.
Intonation was great on all three basses so I moved on and played with my Fenders.

Anyone else pick up a Scale the Summit tab book when he was playing that Legend 6? I got my book about a month ago and learning some of these songs has really improved my finger style technique and technique overall. I'm also for the first time really jamming my Euro 5LX with the OBP-3 finger style and I'm really loving the sound.

Considering switching over from full time pick player to finger player now!

A friend asked me to fix his old ReBop 5. I thought he meant set it up, but turns out the strap button has come off on the bottom side of the bass. The screw has sheared off at the head, leaving nothing to grip on to with pliers. I was considering taking my drill to the screw and seeing if I can get enough friction with a bit to unscrew it, but I am 98% sure that is not gonna work. I wanted to use this bass for a gig on saturday, anyone have any advice for how to fix this up?

If you have the solid brass euro bridge, you might consider keeping it and powder coating it. There's also a process called black oxide that is very, very good. Donny can attest to it, it's on his Jade Bass. The reason why I mention it, is because most of the black bridges that will fit your Euro are the new alloy type, and there might be a slight difference in tone vs the older brass bridge.

Well it is definitely a newer bridge,it has the intonation screws.I am really not to concerned with what it is made of,just as long as it is black.

I love the black oxide… it is holding up very well and I don't take care of it that well .
