The Explorer I made was actually a mistake. I thought I grabbed a particularly odd selection of 2" thick redwood from the redwood bin. Turns out that one of the other students got lazy and put a slab of mahogany in the redwood bin.

sounded great but an Explorer body made of solid mahogany... Heavy...

I routed the cavity for the electronics from the back so there was no pick guard. starting the handheld router in the front for the pups was interesting... Takes a steady & strong hand.
That was in 82, wish I had pics...

Wow, a mahogany Explorer. Must have sounded badass! I wish there were pics of it, I like to see "home made" basses!

I don't have any videos of me playing it, I rarely ever use it. I got it because I love the shape, but it being a four string (I even tuned it to B) I still never use it. The neck is far too thin and hurts my hand so its been hanging there as more of a metal art piece than anything. Hence the decision to sell it on to someone that might actually play it.

Thanks Omer! Yeah, I Love it in my bassment. When we built the house, the mancave was my #1 priority. LOL

And that little MarkBass Micromark 801 is amazing. I'm currently running the Zoom B3 --> Darkglass B3K --> MicroMark --> Ampeg Micro CL cab on my desk. Both the micro's together are incredibly loud, and the B3 gives me all kinds of amp models and effects. Perfect for what I use it for.

We hit all of our newer tunes last night starting off with 'Back on the road again' the bass was thumping in its P-bass glory, 'Livin lovin maid' I dug into the strings noticing the AG 4P-Hot develop a nice growl, 'Heartache tonight' I dialed up the treble and bass past the center position and the bass sounded great during the pattern of the song, 'Limelight' was next and we all know how Geddy attacks the strings so I dug back into it noticing the HOT pickup come to complete life with all of the notes very clear...great balance of tone (grit/growl) with the notes punching! 'Somebody' is played with a pick with the top end sound and strings peeling the paint off of the walls, 'Abacab', 'Money', 'Wild Night' and 'Hey You' I was switching my finger positions from the neck to the bridge noticing great additional tone variations...Aguilar OBP2 and the AG 4P-Hot is a great pre/pickup combination matching the sound of my 78 Fender P-bass yet taking the Spector to massive and great tone variations/additions.

If you are using a EuroLX with a Tonepump it will have less mids so try boosting 400HZ 500HZ & 800HZs ever more.

Interesting that you use this combo of effects - they are my three "go-to" effects on the B3. I'll have to check the settings I use on each, but the SVT simulator is great, and the T Scream is the only overdrive effect on that thing that I like. Admittedly, I have not had much luck getting any results out of the EQ; I'm gonna plug in your settings and see if it makes a difference.
They do produce a monster sound!

I was even close to buying the Alleva-Copollo 5 string 6571-series P-bass, but the guys reported of the neck dive!!! Imagine $2500 passive bass with a neck-dive! After all I could remind the best P-tone I liked the most and surprisingly it was NS-2JA I got from Lee with balance knob fully rolled to the neck p-up. Man, it was increadible. I know it sounds strange that I got a good P-tone from actually a jazz-bass with one single neck J pup but it really was it. The only one that could compete was my friends' 1964 Fender Precision, all original, but it has terrific neck dive making it useless for gigging IMO. I am very sensitive and picky to balance-on-strap issue cause I believe you are not paying over $3000 to keep supporting the neck but to play the bloody thing.

Anton, the balance on the new Coda 4P DLX is excellent. I took mine to band practice Thursday and it balanced just fine. No neck dive issues at all. The tone as Carey described is unbelievable. Quite a variety of tones in this bass. Big and fat Pbass tone to a more modern sound as well.

Todd, thanks for your view on Coda P-bass. I'm sure it balances well so as it plays! BTW how heavy is it?
