Yes its a custom but basscentral has similiar one but with black hardware...personally I think the gold hardware looks better.

Exactly. I've done this also. The active EMG's can sound a little bright at extreme tone settings due to the higher value pots. It wasn't an issue for me as I ran either flat or only slight tone adjustments were/are used.
The actives are wired to that circuit the same otherwise. You just have to get the red wires hooked up. They have to be soldered/bundled together with the battery lead from the pre that goes to the jack for the on/off function when a cord is plugged in. It completes the connection that provides the power to the circuit and then will also provide power to your new active EMG's. Consult the EMG site.

The white wire has braid shielding behind it (ground). The center wire is hot (signal) and the red wire is 9v power. There is usually a post below the ic chip that has 9v on it.

I'm curious also..... From what I can tell its just going to be preference. I have the tonepump in my other spector and I love it soo much that I want to put one in my ns-2a. but the go to for switching everything out seems to be the BT system... which could due to its easier installation.

worshiprocker mentioned a few pages back that he was looking to upgrade his pickups in his NS-2A with a Haz.
So this should be helpful for him.

I hope I didn't loose my credibility with my recent post of wrong info.
But here is the info I have to offer on the Tone Pump vs. the BT.
The BT circuit is 12db of cut and boost for bass and treble
The Tone Pump is boost only.
+19db of gain for bass and treble
I currently have the BT in my NS-2A and my NS-2JAR.
I have a Tone Pump (with trimpot) in my Euro 4LX.
I have the trim output set to 60%. I love the boost that you can get with the Tone Pump when needed.
I think the BT in my NS-2A sounds great. A BT was also in the the NS-2A I just sold.
They both should be easy to install. If you buy the Tone Pump from the Spector website it comes with the pots pre wired and you just add the Pick ups. The same thing with a new BT, it will come pre wired, you just add the Pick ups.
If I get a chance later I will try to record some clips with the Tone Pump Vs. the BT. Different basses but you should still be able to get some idea of the tone characteristics.

You are correct, but if you get new EMG Pick ups they will come with the 25K Volume Pots so you should be all set.

Keep an eye out on ebay and the Accessories classified section on Talkbass. Used active EMG P/Js show up alot.
Well, the NS-4CR got it's first adventure outside the house. Played today with a potential new band. The other members were very complementary and commented on how well I cut through the mix. I brought a Fender, too, but they asked me to keep playing the Spector. I'm pretty sure I got the gig.

When my band played at a festival this July 4th weekend I was approached by a local guitar builder wanting to see/know what make of bass I was playing. He couldn't get over the craftsmanship, the build and how he could hear this bass cutting thru all the mix hitting every beat! He inspected my former Ian Hill a long time and couldn't quit talking about it. Kudos to SPECTOR!!! Funny...nobody wanted to checkout the other basses that were there.
