It's nice to see that my recently sold 4-string is going to be staying in the Club. I bet it's going to sound great with a B-E-A-D tuning.

I suspect it will too...I needed a few low "B's" on a track I'm working on right now, so I just dropped the "E" string on my 4LX down to "B" and dubbed them in. That piano-like clarity is maintained even on notes that low...sounds great. I'm sure it will be even better on a Spector strung with string gauges more appropriate to low tunings.
It is getting all the Love right now - digging it - different kind of a beast. Sounds good and the upper register sounds great - when I run through the VT Pedal in the Little Mark - it sounds delicious.
Hey! I guess I can officially join now! The FedEx guy dropped off this Spector Performer 4 DLX at my place this afternoon. I got it from an eBay auction that The Perfect Bass had up. Got it for $179! I've always really liked the Spector body design. The neck has my preferred satin finish to it and feels really nice. It needed a bit of a setup, but other than that. I realize it's not as sweet as some of the basses in this thread, but it's awfully nice for me!
FWIW, back in college I had a U.S.-made Peavey Fury and Peavey Basic 50 combo as well as several pedals. When I got out of grad school I foolishly sold it all figuring I'd never use it again. I've regretted that ever since. Now, 14 years later, I can play bass again!

Don't think of it not being as sweet as other Spectors. It's an awesome looking bass and for $179, you can't beat that at all! You got a smoking deal on a great bass and it's a Spector to boot!
Yeah, I'm pretty floored at the price. Stunned even. I'm certainly not complaining!
I remember back in about '88 or so I played a Spector that I think sold for ~$800-900--quite a princely sum at that time, especially for a poor college student. I absolutely fell in love with it, but alas I couldn't afford it. Since then, I've wanted a Spector. While my Performer isn't as nice as that one, it is rather nice and it is a Spector. All I have to do is look at the body shape and the headstock and a smile comes to my face.
I'm amazed at how quickly all my old bass licks are coming back to me.
For your next Spector, do yourself a favor and check ebay for a NS-2A. You won't be disappointed.

Looks pretty clean. Probably the best price I've ever seen on a used Rebop - about the same price as a new Performer series model!

I just picked up a Spector euro LX with the infamous Tone Pump. Ive never run a Tonepump through my rig before, but man is that thing HOT! Im actually kind of digging the sound though. I also have a Spector NS2A with aftermarket EMGs and I was hoping the Euro would be my live backup. But, I can see if I needed to go to the Euro/Tonepump, Id have to adjust my amp a lot, which Id rather not do.
What are my options here to get them to sound similar? Dare I say, can I put a Tonepump in the NS2A? Im not real up on electronics, but the NS2A has the active circuit board and the EMGs were just dropped into that.
Otherwise, should would there be any problem putting the EMG BTS system in both basses? That should solve my problem (for a mere $250)? Just buy this and Im done?

I'd check to see if your NS-2A is equipped with the HazLab pre. If so...I wouldn't touch it! The Tone Pump is an okay pre, but the HazLab is considered by many to be one of the nice features about pre-Kramer & Kramer era Spectors.
If anything, I'd buy a set of P & J EMG's and couple those up with the HazLab (if that's what you have, of course). Your bass will be sounding like a US made NS-2 in no time!
I'll see if I can find a photo of the HazLab pre so you can compare it to what's in your bass.

I couldn't tell if it was a Hazlab or not. If it was, I'd leave it of course. I do have active EMG's in there now.
Actually, after posting my original post, I can basically turn down the treble on my amp and I have my tone for each. Different sure, but not strikingly different. To me, the tonepump really growls, and while harsh in some ways, it's pretty cool in others. I'm running a GK800RB and 4x10 Hartke, btw.

Couldn't find a picture of the circuit board, but I know that TB'er 'seventhson' used to have a pic or two of it up on the forums here (he's taken them down, though).
You might want to PM him and see if he still has the photo.
For a "quick fix" though, just check the bottom of the pots on your bass' pre - if it is one, they should have HAZLAB stamped right into them!

I have one of the Performer Deluxe Basses and it is a great Bass - you got a better deal than I did - got mine new for $250 with the Gig Bag - I was stunned by how good it was.
I was in a guitar shop today and I noticed that yes, the prices of Spector Euro basses have gone up!
I have, for reference, a Spector Rebop Deluxe with a zebrano top. I noticed today that two Rebops on the wall had gone up from £500 to £849! I was shocked at this, and asked how much a DLX model with a Zebrawood top would be. The saleman tells me "considerably more", and says that, while they don't have the price to hand, it would be in excess of £1000! Mine cost me £549 new! And even then, it was a special order for the store I bought it from (a guy ordered it, paid the desposit and then never bought it when it came in!).
So the price hike really is in effect!

I was a little concerned with the Tone Pump system as I had never had a boost-only circuit in a bass before. But, it turns out that I like the sound of it!
However - the output seems to be REALLY hot There is an adjustment pot on the Tone Pump module - I believe PJ mentioned something about it being a level control. I'm going to contact him on Friday and see if he can confirm this. If so I'll turn it down.

I know the newer ones have trim pots on them, but I'm not sure when they started adding them.
