I picked up a real spector for my first time at Sam Ash today, I played a Rebob in cherry and Zebrano top. I really liked both, especially how they felt very lightweight while still seeming like a solid instrument. I liked the tone of the Zebrano better, however.

I've been interested in a Legend 4 Custom for a while, should i just wait to get a Rebop or is the construction very similar? (by that i mean is a rebop worth the additional $500 or so). i'm kind of liking the idea of a set neck. and what are the major electronic differences, in terms of tone?

The zebrawood tops are a personal favorite...that might be next on my list of things to acquire :D

Legends are great candidates for a pickup and preamp swap. They don't have the option of the fancy looking tops or inlays but they play extremely well and sound great! :bassist:

My Spector Legend 5 has all of a sudden started to sound well... more treble-y and tinnier, and theres a slight crackling/humming noise constantly coming from my amp when the bass is plugged in.
I kinda like the new sound but I would very much like my old ones back, also I want it fixed if something's wrong.
I just figured it's what I believe is the tone knob, well it's not the bass or volume knobs and I can't remember what it does. It only happens when I have the tone any higher than the off position, and the humming starts to get worse as it gets higher.

I think that is "consistent" with all the models. I was shocked, and pleasantly surprised at how much more comfortable, well shaped, and thinner my US Spector neck is from the two Czech's I owned.

I'm having GAS for a new fretted bass. The fretted one I do have is a cheap-o beginner instrument. I found a Spector on Ebay that might be calling my name. I got my first from there and was really satisfied. Of course, I don't know that I ever actually shared pictures of it on the thread!

So... here's my baby. A Korean-made 2002 NS 2000/4 that was converted to fretless by the previous owner. As my first Spector and first fretless, it was a dream come true for me. I somehow never thought I'd actually own a Spector, just that I'd drool at one from afar. It's good to be wrong sometimes. :)

Eh... I need to get better pictures of it. I took those the first week I had it, and photographically I'm not as satisfied with the outcome as I could be.

I just picked up a Legend 4 on TB and it is an original with PJ pickups, Mahogany Body and it plays and sounds great. Considering upgrading the electronics - but right now I have no real reason.

I also have a Performer DLX - picked this up new with a Gig Bag for $250 - it was new - never played and I love this Bass - it is lighter than the Legend and the neck feels slightly wider. Low action - nice punchy tone and it has a quilted maple top as does the Legend. If the Rebobs and US Models are significantly better - then they have to me pretty awesome Basses - cause the cheap end of the line are fantastic.

True story.

I was looking for a fretless bass in January. I've always wanted one, but waited to get one. I was all set to buy a Fender Squire because it had great reviews on Musician's Friend. I went to a local shop to try one out, and was repulsed by it. It was the neck. It was just horrid to me personally.

Afterwards telling my mother about the shopping experience, I told her that a bass (or any instrument, including the voice ;) ) had to be sexy. In other words, you should want to put your hands all over it.

A week later when I'd bought my fretless Spector, I was showing it off to her and my step-dad. She doesn't know the finer points of basses, but in total awe she said, "That IS a sexy bass!"

Yes, mom. Yes, it is. :D :bassist:

I would say check your battery, and your amp settings. I've found that after setting the amp's tone and turning on the graphic EQ, pumping up my high end will result in hissing....

I hope you find a solution!
