Well, I'm having trouble with my new Legend. The bass is crackling when I rub my hands on the strings or fret some notes. I've changed the battery, checked the ground wire under the bridge, checked the input jack but can't figure out what's wrong. I think it's got to be something in the wiring but I don't know a thing about how this preamp works. I may just have to send it back. :(

My honeyburst Spector Performer Deluxe 4 is my favorite cheap-o bass. Got it as a MF Stupid Deal for $168 a year or two back. Took a bit of work to get it set up, but after a lot of screwing around it's really a nice bass. US passive EMGs, light, super action, attractive, sounds great. I love it!

Well today I shipped the bass back to Spector. They're going to take a look at it and fix it for me. Shipping was taken care of by the seller (they picked it up at the house) and I got several nice phone calls from both PJ and Harvey. The seller is throwing in a Spector gigbag for free because of my trouble. I'm impressed with the situation all around....not the bad wiring on the bass, but the response to it. I couldn't have asked for better service.

Guys
I was digging through my CD's and I found a CD by a band called Rainmaker. I met the bassist years ago and he put the CD in my hands. He used a 5 and 6 string Spector on the CD and the cover shows him with his 6 string. If I remember correctly, he told me it was a special order and he talked to Stu directly about building it.

Anyway, if anyone wants the disc and doesn't mind paying a couple bucks for me to ship it to you, it's all yours! Just PM me if you want it.

Hey everyone, I just bought a Euro LX5 in Amber yesterday.

I'm very happy about the sound, looks and playability, and the thing just oozes quality. I've got a few minor issues with it though. Firstly the neck is finished, which I dislike. The 35" scale, the thick neck and the finish makes it a little slow, at least compared to my 4 string jazz. I expect I'll just get used to it, and I don't want to ruin resale value by sanding the back of it down.

Also, it's insanely loud. With both pickups on "1", it's about the same volume as my Jazz in series on full! I've not used it through my main rig yet, I'm hoping it's still possible to get a clean tone out of it! :D

Also, does anyone know what year it's from? the Serial is 7007.

Ah yes, I think my little laney has active and passive inputs and my bigger peavey rig has a pad switch. Too bad my practise amp is at a friends house (and he's on holiday) and my rig is too heavy to carry upstairs into the room where I keep my instruments. I've been using a Ashdown valve guitar amp, which sounds great with my Jazz, but distorts with the Spector.

I'm thinking about restringing it with a nice set of Elixers once the current strings get old, but a 5 string set costs £40 over here, which I can't afford after buying the bass. :hmm: What are the stock strings? Spector?

Congrats!

The stock strings are Spectors and I swapped them out for DR Nickel Lo Riders because the Spector strings are too bright for my taste.

I have the same Bass - picked it up new with a Gig Bag for $250 cause I wanted to try a Spector and man this Bass is a great little Bass as I have said before - nice resonant tone - fast action - light weight and great range of sounds most from just altering hand postion over the pickups it is one of my favorites now - I would get a another one if I could find an equivalent deal (you stole your).
