Here's my Rickenfaker 330 style bass...it's a solidbody with a fake cat's eye F hole...warmouth paddle neck. I'd like to re-do it by sanding, routing out the body with chambers and adding a tiger stripe maple cap. My first attempt at painting/finishing a bass and I used Reranch nitro rattle cans.

For my project bass, I wanted to convert the four-on-top tuner arrangement to a 3+1, because I liked the way it looked. So I sawed off the top, and punched a hole through the bottom of the headstock. Then I painted it with gloss black Valspar lacquer (from Lowes) with the edges taped off with Duck brand masking tape.

Following that, I had the bright idea to put my signature on the front using enamel. BAD IDEA. It ate all the way down to the bottom of the coat. I had to sand it all the way back down. Live and learn, but frustrating. Bollox:

After the re-finish :( , and curing, I sprayed it front and back with Valspar clear lacquer. I also sig'd the back, out of vanity. (Hey, it's my bass). The sig is black sharpie. The sharpie spread a bit under the lacquer, but I liked the effect. There was a demarcation line on the back of the neck where I had taped it off, but I sanded it in.

Those Hipshot machines are great, BTW. Here it is, all done.

I'm pretty pleased with the result, and I like the new look of the bass with the cloverleafs. It ended up exacly the way I wanted. :D
