John Lennon didn’t have any problems using it as a bass...
The only songs John played Fender Bass VI on were Back in the USSR (one of the bass parts), Rocky Raccoon (one of the bass parts), Let it Be (bass part was later re-recorded by Paul), The Long and Winding Road (sadly, this bass part was not re-recorded by Paul).

The outtake (Take 17, as well as some studio chat from Beatles Rock Band) of Helter Skelter points to Paul playing his Fender Jazz Bass on the album version of the song. John did however play Fender Bass VI on early long 'slow' rehearsal takes of it.

On topic: is it me or these CV JB 60s and CV JB 70s have same pickup spacing (60s style)? So the 'style' is cosmetic only (inlays, binding, finish) apparently just like VM JB 70s in natural finish I have that has 60s pickup spacing?

That black 70s Jazz Bass. 6 years ago I would have loved that to pieces. The hell, 70s pickup spacing on the cheap can only mean good news. Put some pickups winded to the period (I'm thinking Fender Original Jazz Bass), an Omega Bridge (I don't know if a Badass II is easily obtainable right now) and let the inner Geddy flow.

I might have to pick up a bass vi, i have wanted one for a while and while im at it, i might get the 70's Strat in daphne blue. As it looks, some of the new CVs are really just re-branded VMs. On sweetwater there are 70s cv Jazz basses in natural, looks oddly like a 70s jazz bass from the VM series, there are other ones like this. I think the same thing is happening with the Mustang, thinline Tele, and the tele customs/deluxes.
