Had to steal this pic from the guitar shop. I dropped my CV 50s bass off a few weeks ago to get some work done. Will go pick her up this weekend and post better pics. But wanted to share...
* String through body 2-saddle bridge and body ferrules installed
* Fender '51 RI Tuners installed
* Upgraded wiring/pots/jack/knobs
* Headstock stripped and retinted with 50s Fender logo installed
* Chrome Bridge/Pickup covers installed
* Tortoise pickguard (might switch back to the black)
* Setup with Fender Flatwound strings
Can't wait to get her back!

Indeed, I did not mean my post to sound so antagonistic lol. This is my Classic Vibe 60's with an active Seymour Duncan Basslines pickup and DR Hi Beams. Kind of the opposite end from the flats approach, but my fretless has flats on it.

I had ordered a 51 RI pickguard awhile back. Of course it didn't fit.....perfect.
I had to take the dremel and file a little at the part by the pickup cover. No problem, can't even tell anything was done. 2 screw holes did line up. The rest will need new holes drilled. Again, not a issue.
The matte finish guard looks much better, I think. It's also larger than the stock squier guard and looks like it fits the body better. Haven't drilled the rest of the holes cause the drill battery is dead. Will take care of it later.

really nice bass. But it seems to me that the headstock is a bit too yellow compared to the rest of the bass. Was it refinished, too?

The headstock is a little off. The camera flash makes it look more off than it really is. I mean if you sit there and just stare at it, like a picture...then yea. But it doesn't bother me at all. I took it outside to try and get a better picture. I guess really, it just looks a little brighter.
And for anyone wantin' a matte black or white pickguard, go for the '51 RI guard. Just drill some extra holes and if you have a pickup cover, just file a little there. These guards just fit the body better, around the horns (is that what they call em?). The '51 guards are fatter I guess.

I can barely believe I've spent the last 5~6 hours reading 51 pages, 1001 posts and a year and 3 months worth of information JUST TO SEE ANOTHER THREAD HAS ALREADY STARTED!! 
Oh well, it kind of feeds an old G.A.S. I had for the CV 50's Pbass... Had been thinking of getting a MIM instead lately, but the whole part 1 compared the CV's even up there with the MIA's, so I think I know which item to delete from my GC's wishlist

I do not know, but I would assume that they are, at least if you mean the MF and the 60s P. Both basses are made in China and have the same specs accept for the maple fretboard.

Awesome! Was thinking of doing the exact same thing myself, especially as Fender don't do new MIJ 51's anymore (apart from the Sting but that goes for about £800 in the UK), plus i like the butterscotch!
Did you do any of this work yourself? Do you know what was used for retinting the headstock? Anyone know if this is needed or you can just use stripper or sanding to get the Squier logo off? Any reason you wanted to change the electrics? Are the stock ones not OK?
I had a 51 RI and I prefer the Squier. I didn't care for the slab body from the '51. The contoured Squier is more comfortable. The Squier is also lighter which isn't that big of a deal. I also prefer a truss adjust at the headstock. The '51 I had, I would have to remove the neck to make a truss adjustment. I hated the color of the '51 as well. Just too yellow and you could see streaks of what looked almost like green in the grain....what grain you could see anyways. The Squiers look more like a transparent blonde finish I guess.
The stock electronics are fine. It was only $15 extra to go ahead and get the upgrade + about $15 for the pots, wiring, jack, and knobs. So I figured might as well get it done now. I didn't do any of the work myself.
I think the headstock was finished in a amber or tinted nitro lacquer? I don't think you can just sand the logo off without refinishing. I seen a pic of mine and when the logo was removed, you could clearly see where it said squier and looked like a white maple. So, maybe the logo is applied on the neck and then cleared with a tint? Maybe others are different?
If I could go back, I probably wouldn't have changed the logo out. I just already had the logo and the guy doin' the work said it would only be $25-$30 to add it so I figured why not. I'm planning on trying to get another one and do the same upgrades except I'm probably gonna have the body refinished in a 2 tone burst. I talked to a couple luthiers in the area who said if there is a nice grain on the trans blond finish, they can lay a coat of amber over it and burst over the poly in a nitro finish. And it's not that much. So, I'll probably do that with the next one.
