as far as string recomendations go,, I'm running DR Fat Beams on mine,, which works for me..( HUGE DR FAN HERE ) if you're wanting the ground wound thing, i've had some SIT Silencers that worked good for me in the past, but if i'm looking for pure THUMP,,, LaBella 760FL's,, Simply Superb

For those who have had this bass longer than a month, has the honeymoon worn off yet? I think it's great that everyone has positive initial feelings about these basses, but don't we all? ;)

I would be interested to see what people still think after a year or a half a year. This thread sparked my interest!

I bought this bass for the looks only, and I made a huge shopping list over things to replace. :b But I love the feel of the whole bass, and it's a pleasure to play :)

I have used it in two recordings with two bands this month, and I could get some really nice grinding overdriven rock tones with the stock pickups, a Boss OD3-B and my Ampeg SVT-CL (Although almost all the basses I've tried have sounded good on that amp :b). So I would say you don't really need to replace anything on the bass.

Haven't used it live yet though, so I don't know if it'll handle one hour of getting the s**t beat out if it (I play pretty hard :b). I guess the only problem will be the weak tuners.

The whoooo-I-got-a-new-bass feeling has wore off by now, but I still look at the bass and think "wow, that really is a good deal".

I'm 3 months + into my Squier. Gigged it a number of times and I've gotta say that it's truly a player amongst players. If there was a "product of the year" poll, this bass would get my vote. I had mods planned for it, but I've got two other basses ahead of it that are getting the treatment. Perhaps down the road, but I really don't have any problems with it being bone stock. It gets alot of playing time from me.

I've played a bunch of gigs and rehearsals with it and I keep takin it out for more. There's something about that thing, just as it is, no mods, no nuthin, that puts out some kick ass sound. I really dig in when I play and I think that's what gets me going most - it gets real gnarly sounding. Not sure what people call that overdriven digging in sound, I guess some might say growl, but it's more like an awesome distorted thing. The string spacing is really comfortable too, probably because I've been switching from 4 to 5 a lot lately. Absolute keeper.

I've completed all the mods on mine & it sounds GREAT, i've been playing it a couple of days now & I can't seem to put it down, so far I've,,,

installed Hipshot Ultalites
routed the body & installed Nordstrand Big Singles
passive wiring, VVT
installed Schaller Straploks
DR Fat Beams
sanded down the body & headstock / 1000 grit & then hit it with rubbing compound, it now has a beautiful black matte finish,, & the best part,, No More Fingerprints :hyper:

& no photos of it yet :ninja:
