I promise to spell 'Squier" correctly. Now can I play?
My recent Squier Standard Precision V, in metallic black which hasn't come out very well in the photo. Has quite a bit of weight to it and plays astoundingly well for the price. Also, it sounds exactly like Tim Commerford's bass sound in RATM's first album.

If that sounds like a stingray how did you do it and how much do you want for it?
I don't know! Just stumbled upon the sound one day whilst jamming with a mate. I was teaching him some RATM stuff, when we suddenly noticed that the sound was virtually identical. It's got relatively new strings, through my Ashdown ABM EVO II head and MAG 410T, on half input gain and a slightly scooped out EQ.
Ironically, I want a Stingray, so may have to hold onto it!

Looks good. I just got mine and it came with really high action. Tightened the truss rod and all I get is buzz with fairly normal action. Did you have any setup issues? I haven't had too much time to play with it....
That bronco looks hectic! I didn't know they with black pickguards or did you paint it? Or is it a mustang pickguard?
I'm really interested in getting one of those broncos.

its either the bronco pguard thats been painted/aftermarket or a musicmaster but the new pickup would be put into play

I would like to join the Squier owners club, I am now the owner of a "Squier by Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass Active V 5-String Bass"
as the ad says .
I got it second hand from a guy who bought it new a year ago, and he hated it so I got it dirt cheap. Its easy to understand why he hated it, the setup was awful, or rather, it was never set up correct.
I used an hour on adjusting it and now its much smoother, but I am going to let a qualified guitar tech do the setup good and proper.
I hope I am not hijacking the thread by asking for advice on choice of strings for this bass?
I play mostly blues, blues/rock and use a Markbass amp.
On my fretless Godin I use Rotosound flats, which sounds very good, can one use flats on this jazzbass?

I have flat wounds on my Squier VM Jazz and love them! Actually 3 of my 5 basses have flat wounds, one has half rounds and one has the stock round wounds on it. So in short, flat wounds will be just fine on your Jazz. And FWIW, flat wounds = Blues, that is the sound!

My little JB, sounds pretty cool and I do like that 70s-look:

(BTW, that is the only mod I have done or plan to do to my VM.... the next one however....)
I got this for $100. I liked the way it played but it sounded like a turd, so I replaced the pots with 250k's, orange drop cap, lined the cavity with copper tape and put in a used (ebay) SD (pre basslines) pick up I got for $20. Added some Elixirs. Wow! what a difference. Its my main giging bass now. Bridge and nut are next.

Ok, maybe fourth time is the charm.... As I have said before, during the time of this clubs biggest growth, I had major Internet problems, and I was unable to keep up with numbers. To keep things fair, if the new guys want numbers, it requires going back and trying to give them out for over a year worth of posts. I will be posting on TB more frequently now but even with that fact, please just wear you Squier pride in your sig with "Proud Squier Owner" or something of the like.
...by the way, even with a custom GW on the way and two Fenders in the bag, I still have acquired not one, not two but three new Squiers in the last six months. For the price, they are still some of the best instruments available.

flats would work on a j-bass
if you want the feel of flats but a sound similar to rounds

i have a squier VMJ and the black strings with the maple and the black block inlays look amazing!
