Squier VM Jaguar Bass

I really like the looks of the P-Bass but having P/J pickups on the Jag might solve my dilemma of having to decide whether to get a Jazz or P-bass as my second bass...my first and only bass is a Hofner Ignition.

One thing that confuses me about the specs on Squier's website.
Under "Unique Features" it reads:
"Black Bound Fingerboard with Black Block Position Inlays".

When I look at the large photo of it I don't see black binding around the fingerboard. And the block position inlays appear to be white/pearl or silver, not black.

Am I misinterpreting this? You can clearly see the white binding on the 77 Jazz so you'd think black binding on the Jaguar should be apparent since it's shown against a white background.

I'd say it's so - there has to be a binding around the neck in keeping with the design of the VM-J, which has the opposite inlay colors and binding on it's neck.

VM-Jazz = Black/Black
VM-Jag = White/White.

But you know what?

I just went to the GC site and looked at the pixs of the Jag and it looks like there's no binding to me either!

Is this why they got pulled off the sites and just recently re-appeared? - to change the specs for the binding?

'Cause I could swear that it said it was a bound neck before!

I'll buy it anyway for the unique design and the P/J set up and stacked knobs.

Let me check and see if I saved a pix of the other specs before this (possible?) change.

I couldn't find the download I had - I guess I dumped it - but the Squier VM-Jag specs have changed just a little.

Well, I noticed on Squier's website for a couple of days when they finally decided to (prematurely, according to them) announce the new releases, had gotten the specs a little mixed up with instruments that were already out. For example, the listing for the newest version of the VM P-bass with the maple neck and natural finish had the body wood listed as agathis, as it is in the current white finished version, when it was supposed to be maple like the VM Jazz. It was corrected a few days later.
I suppose it's likely they got the specs on the Jag mixed up with the VM Jazz, which has the black bound fingerboard with black block markers.

I ordered one from MF just for fun. I have had pretty good experiences with the new Squiers over the past few years. I had the VM fretless and loved everything about it other than the weak pickups, but that is an easy fix, though I sold it. I have the CV Jazz now and that is pretty much perfect considering the price. I had three of the Fender Jags but ended up selling all of them since I prefer Js and Ps. But this one is cheap, looks kind of fun, and I like the volume/tone and pickup setup. Anyway, they are supposed to arrive at MF in a few days. I'll let y'all know when I receive notice of it being shipped. Certainly it is possible that they receive their shipment late but it is scheduled for 9-1 as previously stated.

Depends on how much of a hurry you are in and how much you have to spend. You could get the Squier VM Jazz in the natural finish that's already out. Would be better than the SX ash jazz that has that same look. Exactly which SX version of the ash jazz were you considering?

I played one today and it is sweet! The Squier Jaguar looks great and I love the stacked knobs. At $299, I can see me getting one for real. I'm not much of a four string player, but either a Squier Jaguar or a Sixities P-bass would be great for me. The quality to value ratio is just awesome!:bassist:
