I use a rifle case for my L2, and a soft rifle case for my Spirit. I did have to take measurements and examine several models before I found cheap ones that would fit. Works well, but I am somewhat concerned the local constabulary will see me unloading the car and panic.

Played my L-2 for many years in the eighties and nineties, but moved back to my beloved Fender J basses eventually. I have two, an early L-2 5, serial number 437 and my L-2, serial number 485.

I used these basses playing club dates around Washington DC. They were perfect for that, easy to carry with a small GK combo amp. Though the Secret Service sometimes gave me an evil eye with the gig bag. The bass was less appreciated after a move to Florida and gigs in local roadhouses rather than The Carlton or White House.

I'm getting old now and those Fenders are pretty heavy, so....
I got the old Steinberger out and rediscovered the wonders of that ergonomic design. I ordered a new set of strings for the old girl (strings on it are over twenty years old) and I'm going to give her a work out this weekend.

Basses still work perfectly and are both still in tune. I gigged the four string hard back in the day. A few little dings but the little stick on serial number label on the neck heel is still there!

That's a really good idea actually, except for airports. Good to know there's one under my bed. lol

I've carried my XL in a black rifle bag through airports dozens of times, with zero problem -- it never gets searched, and I've only had to even open it once (I think the guard was just curious what kind of guitar it was).

The only hairy eyeball I ever got was from a MTA/TSA squad on the NY subway. One of 'em looked at me, looked at the bag, looked at me again, then seemed to go "Nah!", and looked away.
